Fortnite’s 42.10 update launched on 3 September 2026, installed during a scheduled downtime window. The entry on Epic’s official status channel is titled “Fortnite: Downtime for v42.10 Update,” and it’s the source for everything below.

Version number, date and downtime window

The version is 42.10. Downtime details are published on Epic Games’ status page, where the company logs server maintenance and outages. That same channel previously carried the posts behind our piece on the late-August server outages.

Parameter Value
Event type scheduled (THIS IS A SCHEDULED EVENT)
Window Sep 3, 08:00 - 09:30 UTC
Downtime start 4 AM ET (8 AM UTC)
Matchmaking disabled 30 minutes before start

How the shutdown order works

Matchmaking stops first, and only then do the servers go into maintenance. The logic is simple: a match that starts a few minutes before downtime shouldn’t get cut off partway through.

Here’s what that means for a player on patch day:

  1. Check the downtime start time — the entry lists it in two time zones, ET and UTC.
  2. Subtract 30 minutes. After that point, you won’t be able to find a new queue.
  3. A match you’re already in when matchmaking closes plays out normally.
  4. Once the window ends, the client will prompt you to download the update — you can’t get into the game before that.

There’s no changelog here, and that’s deliberate

Epic’s status channel doesn’t list patch contents. It records the downtime, the version number and the timing — nothing else. So we’re not naming new items, balance changes or map edits: we have no source for any of it, and guessing at update contents is worse than staying quiet.

For the actual changelog, go to Epic Games’ official patch notes and the in-game news inside the client. Only there will you get the full list.

What we’re not claiming

  • Whether 42.10 is a major update or a minor fix. The downtime entry doesn’t reveal scale.
  • Whether servers came back up exactly at the end of the stated window. The window is a maintenance plan, not a report of actual completion.
  • Whether the update touched a specific mode. Battle Royale, Festival, Ballistic, Save the World and UEFN all live in one app, but the downtime notice doesn’t say which of them actually changed.
  • Whether future updates will follow the same schedule. Epic announces each window separately.

Why news like this is worth tracking at all

The downtime entry is the earliest confirmed signal that a patch is coming. It appears before anyone’s had a chance to look at what changed, and it carries the two things that actually matter in practice: when the game will be unavailable and what version number it’s being updated to. Everything else at this stage is guesswork, and GameMapa doesn’t publish guesswork.
