The i5-5257U is a dual-core mobile chip from 2015 that shipped in the 13“ MacBook Pro. The Ryzen 3 1200 is a budget quad-core from 2017. The GTX 1050 launched in 2016. The minimum bar is roughly decade-old hardware, and that is not an accident: How to Fish was made by two people and leans on physics rather than graphics.

The Recommended block on the Steam page holds a single line about a 64-bit processor and operating system. No CPU, no GPU, no memory figure. This is not a misreading on our part — the developers simply left the block unfilled.

Mac, Linux, Steam Deck

The store page lists Windows only. There are no native macOS or Linux builds.

We deliberately give no verdict on Steam Deck: the store page carries no official compatibility rating, and we have not tested it on a Deck ourselves. Saying it works, or that it does not, would be invention.

Settings that genuinely affect smoothness

The launch-week patches added two levers worth knowing about if your machine is weak:

  • The minimum locked framerate dropped from 50 to 30 in patch 1.0.5. On slow hardware the game no longer strains to hold 50.
  • Forced fullscreen was removed in patch 1.0.4 — that was what produced the grey screen on startup for some players.
