Insomniac Games — the studio behind Marvel’s Spider-Man — released its Wolverine game on September 15, 2026. Here is what can actually be verified from official sources: platforms, price, languages, review scores, and what the developers themselves said about the game the day before launch.

Release date and platforms

The US PlayStation Store listing gives a release date of September 15, 2026 and names exactly one platform: PS5. The publisher is Sony Interactive Entertainment. There is no PC, Xbox or PS4 version in the store — this is a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

The age rating is ESRB Mature with a Blood and Gore descriptor. A game about a man with retractable claws was never going to land anywhere else.

Price and languages

The store lists three items:

  • Marvel’s Wolverine — $69.99;
  • Marvel’s Wolverine Digital Deluxe Edition — $79.99;
  • Digital Deluxe Edition Upgrade (for players who already own the standard edition) — $10.00.

Those are US prices; your region will differ.

Languages deserve a separate note. The listing names 20: Arabic, Czech, German, Greek, English, Spanish (two variants), French, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese (two variants), Russian, Thai and two variants of Chinese. Ukrainian is not on the list — the game has no official Ukrainian localisation.

How critics rated it

Both major aggregators land on a solid rather than record-breaking result.

Aggregator Score Reviews
Metacritic 77 123
OpenCritic 78 81

Figures captured on September 16, 2026 — a day after launch, they can still move. OpenCritic adds that 69% of critics recommend the game and that it sits in the top 25% of games on the service.

What the game is about

The official PS Store description runs like this: Logan thought he was finished being Wolverine, but the past wasn’t finished with him. Three years after walking out on his team, he rejoins the mutant task force Team X. Bolivar Trask, driven by a fanatical belief in human superiority, is kidnapping mutants — and only Wolverine can stop him. The story moves through Canada, Japan and the fictional island nation of Madripoor; enemies include Trask’s Reavers and Omega Red.

Combat is built around swappable Techniques and Adaptations plus a Rage meter that builds as you play aggressively.

What the developers said

The day before release, PlayStation.Blog published an interview with part of the team: creative director Marcus Smith, game director Mike Daly, senior art director Grant Hollis, senior animation director Brian Wyser and narrative director Walt Williams. A few things from it are worth knowing before you buy.

It is not an open world. Marcus Smith contrasts the game with Spider-Man directly: Spider-Man is an open-world game tied to New York, while with Wolverine everything is “closer, more visceral… more grounded.” Do not expect a second New York with web-swinging — the structure is different.

Liam McIntyre plays Logan. Walt Williams calls him “our Logan” and explains the casting by the actor’s range: from animal fury to a gentle, kind soul.

The Battle Reborn suit is yellow and black. Grant Hollis says the team started from the classic brown-and-yellow and yellow-and-blue comic schemes but wanted a suit that could realistically be fabricated, drawing on military gear and motorcycle body armour. In the end they paired the yellow with black rather than brown.

A brawler, not a fencer. Brian Wyser describes Logan as trained in every martial art and built to lay waste to many enemies at once. A separate animation goal was bringing out the animal: Wolverine’s quadrupedal stride was carried over into how he traverses the world.

Allies and enemies. Sabretooth is the “big brother” figure with a tumultuous shared past in Team X; Mystique, per the writers, has an outlook meant to surprise fans; Jean Grey shares Logan’s obligation to protect the vulnerable but goes about it differently. Opposing the player are the cyborg mercenary Reavers and the Hand.

Sales figures: none yet

As of September 16, 2026, neither Sony nor Insomniac Games has published any sales or player-count figures: there are none on the PS Store listing and none in the PlayStation.Blog interview. So any sales number you run into this week is unofficial. We will update this piece the moment Sony names one.
