Potion (Brewing) Calculator
Pick a potion effect, its variant and its form — the calculator lays out the recipe step by step and works out the exact duration.
How we calculate
Every potion is built from an Awkward Potion (water + Nether Wart) by adding one effect ingredient. A few effects instead corrupt an already-brewed potion with a Fermented Spider Eye, which inverts or swaps the effect to its opposite.
Redstone extends the duration, Glowstone raises the level — but usually not both at once: normally only one of the two modifiers is available. Gunpowder turns a potion into a splash potion, and gunpowder together with Dragon’s Breath turns it into a lingering one.
A splash potion lasts exactly as long as its drinkable form. A lingering one only lasts a quarter of that, but affects everyone standing inside the cloud. Not every effect has an extended or an enhanced variant — the calculator flags it when the chosen combination does not exist and falls back to the base variant instead.

Questions and answers
Why is there no extended or enhanced option for my effect?
Redstone and Glowstone do not do anything for every effect — Fire Resistance has no enhanced tier, for instance, and Instant Health has no extended tier because it has no duration to begin with. The calculator warns about this and falls back to the base variant.
How does a splash potion’s duration compare to a drinkable one?
It is identical — a splash potion lasts exactly as long as the drinkable form. Only a lingering potion is shorter: a quarter of the drinkable duration, in exchange for affecting everyone who stands in its lingering cloud.
How do I brew Invisibility or Instant Damage?
They are not brewed directly from a base ingredient. You first brew the source potion (Night Vision for Invisibility; Instant Health or Poison for Instant Damage), then add a Fermented Spider Eye, which inverts the effect.
Why does Turtle Master apply two effects at once?
It is the only potion that applies two different effects simultaneously — Slowness and Resistance. Its enhanced tier does not extend the duration; it raises both effect levels beyond the usual single step.
Is the data the same on Bedrock Edition?
Almost, but not everywhere: extended Regeneration and enhanced Poison last one second longer on Bedrock than on Java. This calculator uses Java Edition values.
