Fortune Calculator
Pick an ore or block, a Fortune level and how many blocks you mine — the calculator shows the average drop and the exact odds.
How we calculate
For most ores Fortune multiplies the drop: with Fortune III the amount stays normal 2/5 of the time and is doubled, tripled or quadrupled 1/5 of the time each. On average that is 1.33× for Fortune I, 1.75× for II and 2.2× for III. For ores that drop several items (copper, lapis) the whole amount is multiplied.
Redstone, glowstone, melons and sea lanterns work differently: Fortune adds 0 to one extra item per level, and some have a cap — glowstone never drops more than 4 dust and a melon never more than 9 slices. Gravel drops flint more often with Fortune, and always with Fortune III.
Each block’s base amount, formula and cap come from the 26.3 block loot tables; how the formulas behave was checked against independent descriptions. With Silk Touch the ore drops as a block and Fortune does nothing.

Questions and answers
How many diamonds does Fortune III give?
2.2 diamonds per ore on average: one with a 40% chance and two, three or four with 20% each. So 10 ores give about 22 diamonds.
Is Fortune worth it on glowstone?
Not really: without Fortune it already drops 2–4 dust, and it never drops more than 4 at any level. Fortune only hits the maximum more often.
Fortune or Silk Touch for ores?
Silk Touch gives you the ore block itself, to smelt or mine later, while Fortune gives more resources straight away. For diamonds, emeralds, lapis and redstone, Fortune pays off more.
Which version are these numbers for?
Java Edition 26.3: amounts and formulas come from that version’s block loot tables. Some values may differ in Bedrock Edition.
