How we calculate
The cost of the next level does not grow by one formula for the whole game: one applies up to level 16, another from 17 to 31, and a third from 32 onward. So total XP for a level is not a simple straight line but a piecewise quadratic curve — right at the boundaries (16→17, 31→32) the cost visibly jumps.
To work out a level from a total XP amount, the calculator does not round an approximate formula — it finds the exact integer instead, which matters precisely at those boundaries where an approximation could be off by one.
The "XP per action" field is left blank on purpose: exact numbers for fishing, furnaces or mobs vary too much between game versions and situations for the calculator to invent one. Enter a value you actually know, and it works out how many of those actions you need.

Why does XP-per-level grow unevenly?
There isn't one formula for the whole game: one range applies up to level 16, another from 17 to 31, and a third from 32 onward. Right at those boundaries (16→17, 31→32) the cost of the next level visibly jumps — that's a game mechanic, not a calculator error.
Why isn't there a ready-made "how much fish for level X" table?
The XP yield from fishing, furnaces or killing mobs varies too much between game versions, enchantments and situations for one reliable number to exist. Enter a value you actually know in the "XP per action" field, and the calculator works out the count for that value.
What does "progress toward next level" mean?
The 0-100% share of the current level's XP range that your total XP already covers. 0% means the level just started; close to 100% means the next level is almost within reach.
What happens if the target level is below my current one?
The calculator still works out the XP gap between the two levels, but labels the direction as "already past target" — meaning you've gone beyond the chosen level rather than still working toward it.
