How we calculate

The game takes the ranks of both parents, adds one to their sum and halves it, dropping the fraction — an average rounded up. It then looks for the species whose own rank sits closest to that number, and that is what hatches, even when nothing matches exactly.

When two species sit at the same distance from the computed value, the lower index number wins. We list every equally close candidate rather than the winner alone, so you can see how tight the match is and whether a different pair is worth trying. The exception table stands apart: for those pairs the source states the result outright, and the rank formula does not apply at all.

Passive skills are counted separately from the species: the source gives only the distribution of how many skills carry over, not which ones. So the calculator reports probabilities instead of promising specific skills. The male ratio comes from the exception table wherever it differs from an even split.

Questions and answers

Why does the calculator show several species at once?

The game picks the species whose rank is closest to the computed value. When two species sit at the same distance, the lower index number wins. We list every equally close candidate, not just the winner, so you can see how tight the match is.

Where do the ranks and the exception list come from?

From the open Palworld wiki, the Breeding page, licensed CC BY-SA 4.0. The fetch date and the list of exactly what we took are in the SOURCES.md file next to the data.

Why is my Pal missing from the dataset?

The wiki rank table lags behind its variant table: six parents appear among the exceptions but have no rank row of their own yet. For those pairs we return an error instead of substituting zero.

Can a Pal be bred with itself?

Yes, and for seventeen species it is the only way: they hatch only from two parents of their own species. For everything else a pair of identical parents follows the ordinary rank formula.

Why are the specific passive skills not shown?

The source only gives the distribution of how many skills carry over: one — 40 percent, two — 30, three — 20, four — 10. Which skills land is not established in public data, so we do not invent it.
