Roblox has no one-off paid add-ons that you buy and get a finished chunk of game for. Instead, the platform sells two separate things: a monthly Roblox Plus subscription and an in-platform currency called Robux. Mixing the two up is the most expensive beginner mistake — people subscribe, wait for Robux to land, and never get any.

Below is what the subscription actually gives you, where Robux really come from, what changed with Premium, and what nobody has officially stated on this topic.

Why the model is different here

In a console game the logic is simple: there’s a base game, there’s a paid add-on with new missions or a map, you pay and you get the content. Roblox doesn’t have a base game in that sense — it’s a platform where thousands of separate experiences are made by other users. There’s nothing to sell an add-on to across the whole platform.

So Roblox monetises differently. The company states that 144 million people use the platform daily — and it’s for them that Roblox Plus launched globally on 30 April 2026, priced at US$4.99 a month.

The key thing to grasp straight away: the subscription and the currency are two separate wallets. The subscription changes the terms on which you buy things. Robux is what you actually pay with inside experiences.

What Roblox Plus gives you

The subscription isn’t a bundle of content — it’s a bundle of terms. Here’s what’s officially described:

What Details
Purchase discount 10% off in-experience items and avatar gear, from the moment you subscribe
Increased discount 20%, starting from the third consecutive month of subscription
Robux transfers Only Plus subscribers can send Robux to another user without a platform fee
Monthly Robux The subscription itself does not grant any

That last line causes the most confusion, so it’s worth unpacking separately.

Robux come separately from the subscription

To get Robux every month, you need separate packs. Their names spell out the amount directly:

Pack Extra Robux per month
Plus 500 500
Plus 1000 1,000
Plus 2000 2,000

So the structure works like this: the base subscription gives you the discount and access to transfers, while getting currency is something you add on top if you actually need it.

If you don’t buy items or spend Robux inside experiences at all, the discount doesn’t do much for you. If you buy regularly, the maths changes — but only you can work it out, because item prices are set by their creators, not by the platform. For more on where else Robux come from and what methods exist, see our separate guide on how to get Robux.

The discount also applies to avatar items — clothing, accessories, character looks. How that part of the platform works is covered in our guide to Roblox avatar customisation.

Robux transfers: an easy rule to miss

Sending Robux to another player without a platform fee is a feature exclusive to Plus subscribers. But the subscription on its own doesn’t unlock everything here.

To send or receive transfers without parental consent, two conditions have to be met at the same time:

  1. Both people in the transfer must be 18 or older.
  2. Both must have completed age verification.

If those conditions aren’t met, the transfer doesn’t simply become impossible — it falls outside the “no parental consent needed” category, which brings parental controls into play. What those settings are and where to find them is covered in our guide to Roblox parental controls.

The practical takeaway for families: transfers between a child’s account and an adult’s account aren’t “just a button” — age and verification genuinely matter here. Sort this out before anyone in your household subscribes purely to send transfers.

What’s happened to Roblox Premium

Roblox Premium was the platform’s previous subscription. Since Plus launched, it’s no longer available to sign up for. If you hadn’t already subscribed, you can’t start a Premium subscription now.

Anyone who had Premium before this point can carry on using it. So this isn’t a one-off shutdown for everyone — it’s the closing of sign-ups for new subscribers.

Existing subscribers can keep using it
Price not stated here (see below) US$4.99 a month

What we’re not claiming

This section matters more than any guesswork, so read it carefully:

  • We don’t state Premium’s price or compare it with the price of Plus. That figure isn’t in our sources.
  • We don’t claim Premium will ever be switched off. Officially, only new sign-ups have been closed, and existing subscribers keep using it. No end date has been stated anywhere.
  • We don’t list “every benefit” of the subscription. What’s covered here is what’s in the official materials: discounts, the absence of monthly Robux in the base subscription, separate packs, and the terms for transfers. If you see a longer list elsewhere, check the original source.
  • We don’t calculate how many months it takes for the subscription to “pay for itself.” That needs the prices of specific items and your own spending — Roblox hasn’t published any average spend figure.
  • We don’t discuss regional pricing. The only figure known is US$4.99 a month.

How to decide whether you need the subscription

A sequence of steps that doesn’t depend on anyone else’s opinion:

  1. Look at what you actually spend inside experiences in a month. Not what you plan to spend — what you actually spend.
  2. Split the need in two. Do you want the purchase discount, or do you want Robux itself? These are different products: the discount is the base subscription; Robux is the Plus 500 / Plus 1000 / Plus 2000 packs.
  3. Think about the timeframe. The higher 20% discount only kicks in from the third consecutive month of subscription. If you’re subscribing for one month “to try it out,” you won’t reach that level.
  4. If this is for a child’s account, set up parental controls and sort out the transfer conditions first, and only then think about paying.
  5. Don’t subscribe for the sake of Robux. The base subscription doesn’t grant any — that’s the most common source of disappointment.

In short

Roblox has no one-off paid add-ons: there’s the Roblox Plus subscription at US$4.99 a month, which gives a 10% discount (rising to 20% from the third consecutive month) plus fee-free Robux transfers, and there are separate Plus 500 / 1000 / 2000 packs that grant currency monthly. You can no longer sign up for Roblox Premium again, but existing subscribers can keep using it.
