How big is the GTA 6 map — compared with GTA V, RDR2 and cities

Pick 2 to 4 maps or cities and we will show their area to scale as our own shapes (no map images), plus a ratio like "GTA 6 ≈ X× GTA V". Every GTA 6 figure, and every other game figure here, is a community estimate, not an official Rockstar number.

Area comparison

GTA 6 has not shipped, and Rockstar has not published a single map-area figure. Every game number on this page is a community reconstruction or measurement, labelled as an estimate, with a source and a checked date. Exact official figures will only come from Rockstar's own materials.

GTA 6 (Leonida) estimate

115–135 km²

game · land only · Checked: 2026-09-17

GTA 6 (Leonida) ≈ 2.55× GTA V (Los Santos & Blaine County)

How this is worked out

GTA V (Los Santos & Blaine County) estimate

48–50 km²

game · land only · Checked: 2026-09-17

How this is worked out

Red Dead Redemption 2 estimate

54–75 km²

game · land only · Checked: 2026-09-17

Red Dead Redemption 2 ≈ 1.32× GTA V (Los Santos & Blaine County)

How this is worked out

The ratio is computed from each map's mid-range figure — it is an estimate too, not a measurement.

How we calculate

Rockstar has never published a map area in square kilometres or miles — not for GTA 6, and not even for the already-released GTA V, GTA IV, San Andreas or Red Dead Redemption 2. Everything online is an enthusiast measurement: someone lays trailer or leak coordinates over a grid and measures by hand, or someone measures the finished game directly. We use those measurements rather than inventing our own, and every number carries the exact URL and the date we opened it.

For GTA 6, the point estimate is 125 km² of land, reported in April 2024 by GTAForums user lxr in the "GTA 6 Mapping Project" (build v0.045), reconstructed from the official trailers (as relayed by Sportskeeda) — that is ≈2.55× GTA V's land area measured the same way. The range itself (115-135 km²) is worked out independently of that single measurement: grandtheft.gg cites a 2.4-2.7× multiplier without stating what base it applies to — we apply it to gta6explained.com's own ~48-50 km² land estimate for GTA V, making the result a rough estimate: 48×2.4≈115 and 50×2.7=135. lxr's estimate (125 km²) lands almost exactly in the middle of that range. The "How this is worked out" link under each result row points to the exact source its figure came from.

GTA V's area is shown here deliberately as land only (48-50 km², sourced from gta6explained.com), not a land-plus-water mix — otherwise a direct comparison with GTA 6 (also land only) would be misleading, mixing two different bases. Older figures on a different basis — 75.84 km² (TheGamer, Insider Gaming — neither source states outright whether that is land or land+water) and ≈127 km² (Beebom, explicitly land+water) — remain in the source list as context, but are not shown as the range on the page. The "estimate" label sits on every value Rockstar never published officially; the only "official" figures here are the real cities, sourced from Wikipedia.

Questions and answers

Is this the official GTA 6 map size?

No. Rockstar has not published any area in km² or square miles — not for GTA 6, and not for earlier games in the series. The range shown (115-135 km²) comes from multiplying grandtheft.gg's size multiplier by a community land-area estimate for GTA V; a direct reconstruction from the official trailers only produced one figure inside that range — 125 km² (GTAForums user lxr). Every figure here carries an "estimate" badge.

Where does the 115-135 km² range for GTA 6 come from?

A 2.4-2.7× multiplier (grandtheft.gg) applied to a community estimate of GTA V's land area, ~48-50 km² (gta6explained.com): 48×2.4≈115, 50×2.7=135. grandtheft.gg's own page never states what base its multiplier applies to — it only says "approximately 2.4 to 2.7 times larger" than "approximately 49 square miles" for GTA V, with no land/water breakdown — so applying it to the 48-50 km² land figure makes this range a rough estimate, not a precise calculation. A separate direct measurement (GTAForums user lxr, build v0.045, as relayed by Sportskeeda) put GTA 6's land area at 125 km² — about 2.55× GTA V measured the same way, and almost exactly the midpoint of the 115-135 range.

Why does GTA V show a 48-50 km² range instead of one number?

Because even community land-area estimates do not agree on one number — gta6explained.com puts it at roughly 48-50 km², and that range is what the GTA 6 range is built on. Older figures — 75.84 km² (TheGamer, Insider Gaming) and ≈127 km² (Beebom) — were worked out on a different basis (land+water, or no basis stated) and stay in the sources as context, not as the range shown on the page.

Are the shapes in the diagram map outlines?

No — they are plain squares or circles of equal area, drawn with our own SVG. We deliberately never show the outline or shape of any game map, only a proportional size so you can compare areas at a glance.

Why include real cities?

To give a scale you can picture without having played the games: "the GTA 6 map is estimated at roughly this many Manhattans" is easier to grasp than a bare km² figure. City areas are official Wikipedia data — the only values on this page without an "estimate" badge.
