Which Devices Run Roblox: System Requirements
Contents
Roblox’s minimum requirements are described in two official support articles — one for computers, one for mobile devices. Below is a summary of both.
Computer
- Windows. Only 64-bit versions of Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Mac. macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) and newer.
- Linux. No official support.
- Chrome OS. Version 53 and up, with Google Play Store enabled.
- Hardware. A processor from 2005 or newer at 1.6 GHz or higher is recommended, with at least 1 GB of RAM and 300 MB of free disk space.
These requirements are for playing published projects. Requirements for developing in Roblox Studio are higher — see our piece on first steps in Roblox Studio.
Mobile Devices
- iPhone and iPad. iOS/iPadOS 14 and up; the minimum supported models are iPhone 6s and iPad Air 2.
- Android. Version 8.0 and up with OpenGL ES 3.0 support.
Internet Speed
The recommended minimum speed is 4-8 Mbps for a single user in a household. If several people are playing on the same network at once, the official advice is to have more bandwidth than that minimum.
If Your Device Isn’t Supported
On Android, unsupported devices get one of two warning levels:
- A dismissible warning. About possible lag — the game can still be launched.
- A non-dismissible message. The game won’t launch at all — typical for Tegra 2 chips or processors older than ARMv7.
What Isn’t Officially Stated
- Minimum requirements for VR mode or console versions. The checked pages cover PC and mobile devices, but not consoles separately.
- A specific graphics card or GPU for smooth play. A processor and RAM are listed, but not minimum graphics chip requirements.
- Future plans for Linux support. The page only states there’s currently no official support, with no forecast either way.
- Whether running other apps at the same time affects stability. The checked pages don’t mention background CPU or memory load from other programs.
- Minimum requirements for specific demanding games inside Roblox. Support describes requirements for the platform itself; individual experiences may need more resources, but that depends on each project and isn’t detailed on the general requirements pages.
Why Requirements Differ Between Devices
The gap between the minimum and recommended figures for a computer comes down to the fact that the minimum only guarantees the game will launch, not a comfortable frame rate in demanding games. The same applies to mobile devices: an official OS-version minimum doesn’t mean every game inside Roblox will run equally well on that device — the platform itself only sets the floor, while the load depends on the specific game.
If the game still won’t connect after checking the requirements, the most common error codes and what to do about them are covered in our piece on Roblox connection errors.
Frequently asked questions
Does Roblox run on Linux?
There's no official Linux support. Supported are 64-bit Windows 10/11, macOS from version 10.13, and Chrome OS from version 53 with Google Play Store enabled.
What's the minimum iOS version needed for Roblox?
iOS/iPadOS 14 and up; the minimum supported models are iPhone 6s and iPad Air 2 and newer.
What's the recommended minimum internet speed?
4-8 Mbps for a single user in a household. If several people are playing at once, it's worth having more bandwidth than that minimum.
What happens if you launch Roblox on an unsupported Android device?
Depending on the device, either a dismissible warning about possible lag, or a non-dismissible message that won't let the game launch at all (typical for Tegra 2 chips or processors older than ARMv7).
Are the requirements the same for playing and for Roblox Studio?
No, the requirements differ. 1 GB of RAM is enough for playing, while developing in Roblox Studio is officially recommended to have 8 GB.
