Frozen Trail for ARC Raiders: 8 October Update
Contents
Frozen Trail is ARC Raiders’ major update planned for 8 October. The studio announced the date on 12 August 2026 and called Frozen Trail the biggest update the game has had since launch.
Worth pinning down straight away: this is an announcement, not a release. There’s a list of areas the studio is working on, a date, and a promise of more information later. There’s no finished patch note with specifics yet — so treat everything below as “planned,” not as “this is exactly how it’ll be.”
What’s actually been announced
Short and to the point:
| Area | What’s been said |
|---|---|
| Date | 8 October |
| Scale | biggest update since launch — the developer’s own wording |
| New map | a frozen settlement near the mountains on the edge of the Rust Belt |
| PvE content | a large ARC Operation for experienced players, new ARC enemies |
| Progression | an Outpost alongside the Raider Den, reworked skills and Raider Decks |
| Gear | new weapons with customisation, gadgets, cosmetics, tools |
| Technical | matchmaking, anti-cheat, stability |
| What’s next | details in September, live showcase at gamescom in Cologne |
The new map: a frozen settlement
The centrepiece of the update is a new location: a frozen settlement near the mountains on the edge of the Rust Belt. According to the developer’s description, the place has a history — it was once home to villages, factories, research centres and an observatory.
Two things the studio has said directly about this map’s design:
- Verticality. The map is being built around changes in elevation rather than flat movement from cover to cover.
- Exploration. Threats are planned both above ground and below it — meaning the underground portion isn’t just decoration.
What we’re not claiming: exactly how this will affect real routes, extraction points, or the balance of encounters with other raiders. The developer hasn’t named the map’s size, the number of zones, or any specific locations within it. If you’re reading concrete place names for Frozen Trail somewhere right now, they didn’t come from the official announcement.
If you want a refresher on how the existing locations work before the new one arrives, we have a breakdown of maps and locations in ARC Raiders.
The ARC Operation and new enemies
Alongside the map, the studio is promising a large ARC Operation aimed at experienced players. That’s the developer’s own wording — this content is deliberately not meant for your first raid.
There will also be new ARC enemies. The only characteristic the studio gave is a spread in scale: from a small pest to a huge machine. No names, mechanics or behaviour have been revealed yet.
This is a place to be especially careful with expectations. “A huge machine” describes scale, not a promise of a specific boss fight with particular phases or mechanics. Anything you read about tactics against the new ARC enemies before September is a guess.
For what’s already known about existing machines and how to handle them, see our guide to ARC machines.
Progression: an Outpost instead of the Raider Den
The most interesting part of the announcement for long-time players isn’t the map — it’s the changes to progression.
Right now your base is the Raider Den. Frozen Trail is set to add an Outpost — a place you can develop and use as a base for exploring the world. The wording of the announcement suggests the Raider Den won’t be the only anchor point any more: instead of just the Den, there will be an Outpost.
On top of that, the studio is promising to rework:
- the skill tree;
- Raider Decks.
The word “rework” matters here. This isn’t “add another branch” — the studio is talking about reworking the systems themselves. What happens to skill points already invested, or to decks already built, hasn’t been explained. There’s no mention in the announcement of resets, compensation, or progress being preserved, and we’re not filling that gap on the studio’s behalf.
For how progression and the workshop function right now, see our guide to progression and the workshop.
Gear and the technical side
This is the vaguest part of the announcement. Promised:
- new weapons with customisation options;
- gadgets;
- cosmetics;
- tools.
Not a single item has been named. What “customisation” actually means — separate modules, visual variants, or something else — hasn’t been clarified either.
Separately, the studio mentioned work on matchmaking, anti-cheat and stability. That’s not content, but for an extraction shooter it’s often more important than a new gun: solid matchmaking and working anti-cheat directly determine whether it makes sense to head into a raid solo or in a small group.
Why updates are coming less often
This isn’t accidental, and it isn’t a delay. Back in May the studio announced a shift to less frequent but bigger updates — and the longer gap before 8 October is a direct result of that decision.
In other words, the wait until 8 October is a planned release model, not silence caused by problems. Frozen Trail is being presented as an example of what that approach delivers: one large package instead of a string of small ones.
You can look back at previous patches in our updates and patches coverage.
What we’re not claiming
This is the most useful section in any announcement. Here’s what’s officially unknown right now:
- Names. No enemies, weapons or specific locations within the new map have published names.
- Scale in numbers. How many new enemies, how many weapons, how big the map is — the developer hasn’t said.
- The fate of current progress. What happens to skills and Raider Decks after the rework hasn’t been explained.
- Price and access model. Whether any of this will be paid isn’t addressed in the announcement.
- Exact release time. A date has been given, not a time or regional schedule.
- How firm the date is. The date has been announced, but an announcement isn’t a guarantee — delays happen across the industry, and the studio hasn’t made a separate promise that this date is fixed.
What to do before 8 October
If you want to meet the update prepared rather than catching up afterwards:
- Wait for September. The studio has promised details then — that’s the earliest point where specifics show up instead of a list of directions.
- Watch gamescom in Cologne. The game is planned to be shown live there, meaning you’ll see the map and enemies in motion, not just described in text.
- Don’t rush to rebuild your build around rumours. The skill tree and Raider Decks are being reworked — investing in a long optimisation for the current systems right now is risky.
- Get comfortable with what already exists. If the new map really does lean on verticality and underground threats, habits from the current locations will be the first thing you can rely on.
- Check your source. Anything beyond the official announcement is a guess until September, no matter how confidently it’s written.
In short
Frozen Trail is ARC Raiders’ major update planned for 8 October, bringing a new frozen map, a large ARC Operation, new ARC enemies and reworked progression through an Outpost. There are no specifics yet: details are promised in September, with a live showcase at gamescom in Cologne.
