The albatross is the fourth boss and the first one you cannot see from the boat. It circles above the rocky (red) island, and until there is bait on the ground there is no fight at all.

In short

Question Answer
Island fourth, rocky
Bait the tuna mini-boss carcass
Lure for the tuna professional lure
Where to drop it middle of the island, out in the open
Achievement «Terrorizing bird», 54.9% of players
Main weapon assault rifle or SMG, not a sniper

The tuna first, the boss second

The chain here is longer than for the earlier bosses. The albatross ignores every ordinary bait — what interests it is a large fish lying on land.

  1. Take the professional lure — the same one that lands sengarat, red snapper, tigerfish, parrotfish, bass, halibut, flying fish, eel, voxelfish and the dripper. The full table is in the bait guide.
  2. Land the tuna. It is a mini-boss: bigger than a normal fish and it will not take the hook on the first cast.
  3. Carry the carcass onto the island and leave it in the open, in the middle. The bird spots bait from above.

⚠️ Do not drop the tuna under a rock or right at the waterline: the albatross attacks from the air, and if the bait sits in a tight spot you will spend the whole fight shooting stone.

The fight itself

The albatross behaves unlike every boss before it. The crab and the piranha were ground targets, the pufferfish a water target — here the target is airborne and constantly moving.

  • The bird dives, strikes, and climbs again.
  • On the climb it is all but immune to the shotgun: too far away, and the spread eats the damage.
  • The game has no damage falloff. That is the one thing to know here: an SMG at 40 units deals exactly what it deals point blank. So automatic weapons beat the sniper rifle — they simply put more rounds into the short window while the bird is in view.

The practical conclusion is single: bring an SMG or an assault rifle with an extended magazine, and leave the sniper at home.

Killscore: the easiest aerial bonuses in the game

The albatross is the only boss where the aerial multiplier group fires:

Bonus Multiplier When
Dogfight ×1.50 you airborne and target airborne
Aerial ×1.25 you airborne
Fly Fishing ×1.25 target airborne
Longshot ×1.30 beyond 25 units

⚠️ The first three are mutually exclusive — the game counts only one of them, the highest available. The full system is broken down in the killscore guide.

Overkill does not apply here: by definition it never triggers on bosses.

What the patches fixed

The albatross had exactly one known problem, and it is already fixed. Patch 1.0.10 of 27 August 2026 lists, among its fixes, the removal of the tuna and albatross respawn lock — before that, some players simply never saw the mini-boss a second time and progress stalled.

If you are on the current version and the tuna will not come back, quit to the main menu and rejoin the session.

Next

After the albatross only the last island remains — the volcano with the military. That one has its own page: the final boss. If you have not cleared the pufferfish yet, see the third boss guide. The map of all five is here.

Frequently asked questions

How do I summon the albatross?

Catch the tuna with the professional lure first, then drop the carcass in the middle of the rocky island. The bird comes down to it on its own.

Which lure catches the tuna?

The professional lure — the same one that lands sengarat, red snapper and eel.

What is the best weapon against the albatross?

An automatic one. The game has no damage falloff, so an SMG hits just as hard as a sniper rifle at range and fires far more often.

How many players have reached the albatross?

The «Terrorizing bird» achievement sits at 54.9% of owners, per the Steam global achievement stats read on 31 August 2026.

The tuna or albatross will not respawn — is that a bug?

It was one. Patch 1.0.10 of 27 August explicitly lists a fix for the tuna and albatross respawn lock.
