How to Fish vs other Steam fishing games: four side by side
Contents
How to Fish is not the first fishing game on Steam, and not even the most reviewed one. We pulled the store entries for four other fishing games and lined them up.
The table
| Game | Release | Price | Reviews | Positive |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| How to Fish | 20 Aug 2026 | $7.99 | 43,770 | 94.9% |
| WEBFISHING | 11 Oct 2024 | $4.99 | 70,390 | 97.3% |
| DREDGE | 30 Mar 2023 | $26.99 (now -60%: $10.79) | 56,630 | 95.8% |
| Fishing Planet | 28 Aug 2017 | free | 77,168 | 86.8% |
| Fishing: North Atlantic | 11 Apr 2019 | $19.99 | 98 | 82.7% |
Pace: reviews per day
Comparing raw totals is unfair — these games shipped in different years. So divide reviews by days on sale up to 31 August 2026:
| Game | Days on sale | Reviews per day |
|---|---|---|
| How to Fish | 11 | 3,979 |
| WEBFISHING | 689 | 102 |
| DREDGE | 1,250 | 45 |
| Fishing Planet | 3,290 | 24 |
| Fishing: North Atlantic | 2,699 | under 1 |
The gap in pace is roughly forty times between How to Fish and its nearest pursuer.
But that average is unfair to How to Fish in the other direction too. Those 11 days include the launch spike. We measured the current flow separately: over the most recent hours the pace ran at about 2,688 reviews per day, already below the average. The gap to WEBFISHING is still twentyfold.
What each one has going for it
WEBFISHING — the highest rating. 97.3 percent positive out of 70,390 reviews. That is Overwhelmingly Positive, a step above the Very Positive that How to Fish holds. And it is cheaper: 4.99 dollars against 7.99.
DREDGE — the most expensive and right now the best deal. A base price of 26.99 dollars, more than three times How to Fish. But at the time of capture DREDGE was running a 60 percent discount, so 10.79 dollars.
Fishing Planet — free. 77,168 reviews, the most in our table, and the lowest score among the paid-and-free set at 86.8 percent. That is typical for free games: the entry barrier is zero, so people who will not like it try it anyway.
Fishing: North Atlantic — the outlier. 98 reviews in over seven years and 82.7 percent positive. We deliberately left it in: it shows that being a fishing game on Steam guarantees nothing on its own.
What this table does not contain
We are not comparing gameplay. How to Fish is a co-op shooter with fishing, bosses and a casino; DREDGE is a narrative horror game; Fishing Planet is a simulator with microtransactions. All they share is the word fish.
We did not measure sales. The table counts reviews, not copies sold. How many reviews one sold copy produces differs from game to game, and none of our sources shows it.
We dropped one candidate. Another well-known fishing game returned just 13 reviews to our query — a number clearly broken on the API side. We chose not to publish it as a fact.
