Career Builder in GTA Online: four paths for a new character
Contents
Career Builder is a built-in GTA Online process for creating a new character with a criminal direction already set. It isn’t available on every platform, and it isn’t unlimited — the details below come from Rockstar’s official description.
Four paths to choose from
Career Builder gives players a choice of one of four paths:
- Biker — a path tied to a motorcycle club.
- Executive — a path centered on running an organization.
- Gunrunner — a path tied to a weapons-manufacturing business.
- Nightclub Owner — a path centered on owning a nightclub.
The choice is made once, right at the start — it’s the defining fork from which a new character begins.
Starting capital: GTA$4,000,000
After picking a path, the player receives an amount to set up their start:
- GTA$4,000,000 — for property, vehicles, and weapons specifically within the chosen Career Builder path.
- A maximum of GTA$1,000,000 carries over into GTA Online. That’s not the same as the amount allocated at the start: the carried-over portion is only a subset of the starting capital, and the rest stays spent during the setup phase inside Career Builder itself.
For how this bonus relates to other official money sources in the game, see our piece on earning money in GTA Online.
Which platforms it’s available on
Career Builder isn’t a universal feature across every platform and version of the game:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- PC, GTAV Enhanced version
These are specifically the current-generation platforms and the matching PC version. For the full list of platforms GTA V supports overall, see our piece on editions and platforms.
A one-time process
Career Builder and its associated starting bonus are available only once. Rockstar Support states directly: if a character who already completed Career Builder is deleted, you cannot go through Career Builder again on a new character or receive the GTA$4,000,000 bonus a second time. That’s worth factoring in before deleting a character — the decision is irreversible specifically in terms of regaining access to this particular bonus.
What is officially not stated
- The ability to change your path after finishing Career Builder. The article covers the choice at the start, but not a procedure for changing an already-chosen path.
- An exact list of assets for each of the four paths. The total GTA$4,000,000 figure is given, but the official article doesn’t break down the specific property, vehicles, and weapons for each individual path.
- How long Career Builder itself takes — the average time from choosing a path to being carried over into the main game.
- Whether the chosen Career Builder path affects later access to related businesses (for example, whether choosing Nightclub Owner makes it easier to later buy a nightclub) — the page we checked doesn’t address this.
