Updated 28 August 2026, after the An Extended Look show. The show settled one rumour on this list — number seven: it really was not “Trailer 3” but a showing under its own name. The other seven remain unconfirmed: Rockstar has put nothing in writing about map size, frame rate, a PC version or online. More — our breakdown of the show. The hardest thing about GTA 6 information is not that there is too little of it. It is that there are more rumours than facts — and they sound equally confident. Below are the eight claims that most often circulate as established facts. For each one: what official sources actually contain.
What we checked: the Newswire feed under the Grand Theft Auto VI tag, the game
page at rockstargames.com/VI, the pre-order posts and both delay posts, plus
the game listing in the PlayStation Store.
1. “The map is 2.4 times bigger than GTA 5”
What official sources contain: nothing. Rockstar has not given the map area of GTA 6 — and, more importantly, has never given it for GTA 5 either.
A multiplier without a denominator does not work: if the area of neither game is officially known, there is nothing to derive a ratio from. Every figure you see — 2.4x, 2.7x, specific square kilometres — comes from players themselves: someone measured travel distances in GTA 5, someone else laid trailer frames over a grid.
That is normal community work. But it is an estimate, not a fact from the developer.
2. “The PC version launches alongside consoles” (or “in 2027”)
What official sources contain: PC is not on the platform list at all.
Rockstar consistently names two platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no PC date, no promise of a PC version, and no wording along the lines of “later” in any material we checked.
Historically, GTA games have reached PC after consoles — but that is an observation about the past, not an announcement. Any specific PC date quoted today is invented.
3. “GTA 6 is coming to Nintendo Switch 2”
What official sources contain: Switch 2 is not mentioned anywhere.
There is not even a hint here to stretch: the official platform list has exactly two entries. Neither a version nor an intention to make one has been announced.
4. “Online launches in December 2026”
What official sources contain: GTA 6 is described as a single-player game, and no online date exists.
In the pre-order announcement Rockstar puts it plainly: a single player experience. An online mode has not been announced — not the name, not a date, not even the fact that one is in development.
⚠️ The “December 2026” claim circulates in the press citing an insider. We mention it precisely as a rumour: the source is neither Rockstar nor Take-Two, there is no confirmation, and different retellings of it contradict each other.
5. “The GTA 6 system requirements are already known”
What official sources contain: requirements do not exist, because an announced PC version does not exist.
The logic is simple: system requirements are published by the developer for a specific platform. There is no platform, so there is nothing to publish. Every “minimum / recommended requirements for GTA 6” table you can find right now was assembled by the author of that page, not by Rockstar.
The practical consequence: do not buy hardware against those tables. Real requirements are at least as far away as the release itself.
6. “GTA 6 cheat codes have leaked” / “the codes will be the same as GTA 5”
What official sources contain: absolutely nothing has been said about cheat codes.
Any “working GTA 6 cheat code” is physically impossible today: codes are part of the game’s own code, and the game is not yet in players’ hands. Sites publishing such lists are either farming traffic or steering you towards third-party programs.
Whether there will be cheat codes at all has also not been announced. Series tradition says yes, but tradition is not an announcement.
7. “Trailer 3 arrives on 27 August” — ✅ settled
What official sources contain: the showing went out on 27 August 2026 under the name Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, and the official page lists its running time — 26:48.
This is the one item on the list the show closed. Rockstar never used the word “trailer”, and the length turned out to be not the rumoured “15 minutes of gameplay” but almost twice that. Anyone presenting “Trailer 3” as fact was wrong.
8. “60 frames per second is confirmed”
What official sources contain: neither 60 nor 30 FPS has been stated once.
This is probably the quietest of the unknowns — it gets written about rarely, yet it matters more to how the game feels than the size of the map does. Rockstar has announced neither a target frame rate nor the presence of quality and performance modes.
Resolution and support for specific upscaling technologies are equally unannounced.
How to check for yourself
One filter that works: a fact has a source, a rumour has a retelling.
- ✅ “Rockstar wrote in its post of 6 November 2025 that…” — verifiable in a minute;
- ⚠️ “according to an insider”, “sources report”, “information has appeared online” — that is a rumour, even if it later turns out to be true;
- ❌ a precise figure with no link — the worst case: numbers look the most convincing and are the most often invented.
A second check — look for a denial. Rockstar often stays silent, but almost never denies anything. If a source says Rockstar has denied a rumour, that usually means somebody retold somebody else’s guess.
The bottom line
After the 27 August 2026 showing, one of the eight claims is settled — number seven: it was not “Trailer 3”. The other seven had no official confirmation before and still have none. That does not make them all false — some may well turn out to be true closer to release. It only means they cannot be presented as facts today.
We do not retell the video itself: everything Rockstar confirmed in writing is collected in our breakdown of the show. Whatever stayed unconfirmed in writing stays here.
Frequently asked questions
Is the GTA 6 map really 2.4 times bigger than the GTA 5 map?
That is a player estimate, not an official figure. Rockstar has never published the map area of GTA 5 or of GTA 6, so the multiplier has nothing to be measured against.
Is GTA 6 coming to Nintendo Switch 2?
Switch 2 does not appear on the official platform list. Rockstar names only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Everything else is unconfirmed rumour.
Are the GTA 6 system requirements known?
No. There is no announced PC version, so official requirements do not exist. Every requirements table circulating online was made up by whoever published it.
Has Rockstar confirmed 60 frames per second?
No. Neither 60 nor 30 FPS appears in any official material we checked. The question is still open.
Will Trailer 3 be shown on 27 August?
Rockstar calls it An Extended Look. The word trailer does not appear in the announcement, and neither the format nor the running time has been stated.
How do I tell a GTA 6 rumour from a fact?
Ask for the source. A fact links to Newswire, the game page or a store listing. If the source is an insider or a report, it is a rumour.
