Six dates sit between today and GTA 6, and four of them are easy to miss. Everyone knows launch day. Far fewer know that preload opens a week earlier, that the bonus has its own deadline a day after launch, or that the free GTA+ month expires in March 2027 if nobody claims it.

Below is the complete timeline, assembled from first-party pages only: Rockstar’s Newswire, Rockstar Support, and the game’s PlayStation Store listing measured on 14 August 2026.

The timeline at a glance

Date What happens Do you need to act
27 August 2026 An Extended Look — new material from Rockstar No, just watch
12 November 2026 Preload opens, at local midnight Yes, if you already own it
12 November 2026 Physical editions begin shipping No
18 November 2026 The date shown in European stores — the unlock moment No
19 November 2026 GTA 6 launches Yes, play
20 November 2026 Last day a purchase still earns the bonus Yes, if you have not bought
31 March 2027 Last day to claim the GTA+ month Yes, definitely

Each date in turn.

27 August 2026 — An Extended Look

On 6 August Rockstar announced a showing called An Extended Look, with an unusual two-part schedule inside a single day:

  • 3 p.m. Eastern — premiere on Netflix;
  • 9 p.m. Eastern — the same material on Rockstar’s YouTube channel and on the official game site.

So Netflix holds it exclusively for six hours, after which it becomes available to everyone without a subscription. Convert 3 p.m. ET to your own zone before setting a reminder — for most of Europe the second, open showing lands after midnight. Our news piece covers what the format does and does not promise.

⚠️ Rockstar does not call it a trailer. “Extended look” leaves room for a gameplay reel and for a documentary-style piece alike, and we are not going to guess which (what has been shown so far).

12 November 2026 — preload

Rockstar Support states directly that preload opens on 12 November at local midnight — seven days before launch. This is the most practically useful date in the entire calendar.

The reason is mundane: the game is large and millions of people will download it simultaneously on launch day. Anyone who preloaded plays from minute one. The full mechanics, including what to do when the button does not appear, are in our preload guide.

The same day, physical editions start shipping. One detail deserves attention before you buy a box: according to Rockstar’s own support page, the physical edition contains a download code, not a disc with the game. The box does not spare you the download.

18 or 19 November — why two dates circulate

European PlayStation Store pages show 18.11.2026 in the date field while the official launch date is 19 November. There is no contradiction: the store is printing the unlock moment in a time zone that is probably not yours.

Measured on 14 August 2026 across three locales of the same store:

Store locale Date field as shown In UTC
Ukrainian 18.11.2026 10:00 PM UTC 22:00 UTC
Russian-language Ukrainian 18.11.2026 05:00 PM EST 22:00 UTC
Polish 18.11.2026 06:00 PM EST 23:00 UTC

Different renderings, one moment. The rule that actually helps: the game unlocks at local midnight going into 19 November in each region, which is why the stored value looks like the 18th anywhere ahead of the Americas. Full breakdown in our release date article.

19 November 2026 — launch

The date given by both Rockstar and PlayStation: 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch 2 are not on the list (why).

Rockstar has not published staggered per-country launch dates, so this is a single global moment rather than a rolling release.

20 November 2026 — the bonus deadline

The least-known date here, and the only one that can cost you content. Per Rockstar Support and the PlayStation Store listing, digital purchases made before 20 November 2026 include:

  • the Vintage Vice City Pack — a set of in-game content;
  • one month of GTA+.

So the bonus is not tied to pre-ordering — it is tied to buying before a date that falls a full day after launch. The store phrases the offer as ending 19 November 2026, which is a good reason not to leave it to the final hours (pre-order terms).

⚠️ This covers digital purchases. What the Ultimate Edition adds on top is a separate matter (contents).

31 March 2027 — the GTA+ deadline

The free GTA+ month does not activate itself. The PlayStation Store attaches three conditions at once:

  1. it must be claimed by 31 March 2027;
  2. once per account, no matter how many copies you buy;
  3. existing subscribers get the month appended to their current membership rather than replacing it.

After the free month the membership renews automatically and at cost — which is why this date belongs in a calendar twice: once to claim, once to decide about cancelling (terms).

⚠️ Xbox runs its own redemption window on a different clock. We deliberately do not merge the two into one number, because they are not interchangeable — and whether the Xbox channel is even open to you depends on your country (availability by region).

Dates that do not exist

This is not an omission. None of the following has a date in any official source, so any specific figure attached to them is invented.

  • A PC version. Not announced at all (the PC situation).
  • An online mode launch. Neither a date nor a confirmed format (breakdown).
  • The next trailer after 27 August. Rockstar does not publish a showing schedule in advance.
  • When the provisional age rating becomes final. Both PEGI and ESRB still show a provisional marking as of August (what that means).
  • A cancellation cut-off for pre-orders. That is set by each store, not by Rockstar (how to cancel).

What we cannot claim

  • That none of these dates will move. GTA 6 has been delayed before. Rockstar is currently holding 19 November, but that is a commitment, not a guarantee.
  • That preload will open exactly at midnight in your region. The date is official; how one specific store behaves in one specific country is not.
  • That the bonus pack is identical across every storefront. We verified the contents on PlayStation Store pages, not platform by platform.
  • How long the 27 August showing runs. No runtime has been announced.

Bottom line

  • 27 August — Extended Look: Netflix at 3 p.m. ET, then YouTube and the site at 9 p.m. ET.
  • 12 November — preload at local midnight; physical boxes ship the same day, containing a code rather than a disc.
  • 19 November — launch; the 18.11 you see in a store is the same instant in another zone.
  • 20 November — the last day a purchase still earns the Vintage Vice City Pack and a GTA+ month.
  • 31 March 2027 — the last day to claim that month, once per account.

Frequently asked questions

When does GTA 6 come out?

19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. European store pages show 18.11.2026 in the date field, which is the same unlock moment expressed in a different time zone.

What happens on 27 August 2026?

Rockstar shows a piece called An Extended Look. It premieres on Netflix at 3 p.m. Eastern, then appears the same day at 9 p.m. Eastern on Rockstar's YouTube channel and on the game's own site.

When can I start downloading?

Preload opens on 12 November 2026 at local midnight — a full week before launch. That is the single most useful date to put in a calendar after launch day itself.

What is the deadline for the pre-order bonus?

Digital purchases made before 20 November 2026 include the Vintage Vice City Pack and one month of GTA+. It is neither the launch date nor a pre-order-only window, but a separate deadline.

How long do I have to claim the GTA+ month?

The PlayStation Store states it must be claimed by 31 March 2027, once per account. Xbox runs its own redemption mechanic on a different clock — the two should not be merged.

Is there a PC release date?

No. A PC version has not been announced at all, so there is no date for it in this timeline — not even an estimated one.
