Controller support in How to Fish: DualSense and axis invert
Contents
How to Fish has full controller support — the Steam page says Full controller support, not partial — and it calls out DualShock and DualSense separately.
What is supported
| Feature | Status |
|---|---|
| Full controller support | yes |
| DualShock (PS4) | yes |
| DualSense (PS5) | yes |
| Custom volume controls | yes |
| Platforms | Windows only |
There are no console versions. The store page lists Windows and nothing else — no macOS, no Linux. The studio FAQ, however, answers yes to consoles and Mac, without naming a date.
PlayStation button icons: fixed in 1.0.8
At launch the game showed the wrong button glyphs, so players on PlayStation pads were reading prompts that did not match their controller. Patch 1.0.8 on 24 August fixed it — the patch note states plainly that PlayStation controller glyphs now display correctly.
If you still see the old icons, check that Steam has updated the game to 1.0.8 or later.
Axis invert arrived in 1.0.5
There was no invert option at launch at all, and it was one of the loudest complaints. Patch 1.0.5 on 22 August added invert for the X axis and the Y axis separately.
The same patch lowered the minimum locked frame rate from 50 to 30. That is not a controller change, but it directly affects how the game feels to steer on a weaker PC.
Audio: the FX slider actually works now
A small thing that annoyed people: the fire sizzling sound ignored the volume settings. Patch 1.0.8 tied it to the FX slider. If you ever muted the game and the fire kept hissing, that was the bug.
What we are not claiming
We have not tested DualSense haptics or adaptive triggers. The developers have not written about them, and the DualSense Controller Support tag on Steam does not by itself mean those features are used. We also do not know when console versions will arrive. The studio FAQ says consoles and Mac are planned, then immediately adds that there is no date yet. No announcement has named a platform or a deadline.
