How to Fish patch 1.0.8: DualSense glyphs and fire audio
Contents
Patch 1.0.8 shipped on 24 August 2026 and the developer called it a tiny bugfix patch, promising more that week. He delivered: 1.0.9 landed the same day, and 1.0.10 three days later.
What is in it
| Fix | Detail |
|---|---|
| PlayStation controller glyphs | button prompts now show the correct layout |
| Campfire audio | the fire sizzle is now tied to the FX volume slider |
That is the whole patch. Two lines.
Why glyphs are not a trivial fix
Glyphs are the button icons in prompts — press ✕ to pick up. When the game gets them wrong, the prompt shows a different controller’s layout, and a DualSense player sees letters instead of shapes. In a game where nearly every interaction is pick up, throw, swing and cast, a wrong prompt breaks the controls directly.
The How to Fish store page lists full controller support, with DualShock and DualSense support as separate entries. So this was never about adding support — only about displaying it correctly.
Fire audio and the FX slider
The second line sounds minor, but it is a classic co-op game problem: one sound is wired to no slider at all and blares at full volume. In How to Fish that sound was the campfire — the one you cook on. It now responds to FX volume.
The store page, incidentally, flags Custom Volume Controls as a feature, meaning there is more than one slider and every sound is meant to answer to one of them.
What we are not claiming
The developers did not name the specific controller models that reproduced the bug, nor whether third-party pads emulating a DualShock were affected. The patch note says exactly what is quoted above.
Frequently asked questions
What did patch 1.0.8 fix?
Two bugs: incorrect PlayStation controller button prompts, and the campfire sound ignoring the FX volume slider.
When did it release?
On 24 August 2026. The larger patch 1.0.9, with difficulty modes, shipped later the same day.
Does my DualSense work in How to Fish?
Yes. The Steam store page lists full controller support with DualShock and DualSense called out separately. Patch 1.0.8 fixed the button prompts specifically.
What are button glyphs?
The on-screen icons in prompts. Before the patch the game could show another controller's layout, so the prompt did not match the pad in your hands.
Is this the final patch?
No. 1.0.9 followed the same day, and 1.0.10 arrived on 27 August as the biggest patch to that point.
