The second boss in How to Fish lives off the forest island and follows the same logic as the crab: an NPC trade first, then a trigger bait, and only then the fight.

Three leeches for the lady in the forest

A woman sits on a rock in the forest. The trade costs three leeches, and in return she gives you Leech Bait. It is the only bait in the game the Giant Piranha will take: the beginner, standard, professional and scientific lures do nothing here at all.

The bait is single-use, so every summon needs a fresh trade.

Getting ready

Show up at the second island with the shotgun (150) and the upgraded boat engine (230) already bought — those two purchases close most of the problems of the first third of the game. The engine upgrade also unlocks “Getting an upgrade”, which 86.5% of players have.

How to Fish has no damage falloff: a point-blank shot and a shot from across the bay hit exactly the same. That makes the shotgun and the SMG better boss weapons than the sniper rifle — they simply put more rounds downrange in the same time.

If the boss feels too expensive in ammo, patch 1.0.9 added difficulty modes: Easy takes 25% off creature health and halves their damage, Hard adds 25% to both.

The Dinnertime achievement

The usual mistake is to kill the piranha and sail on. The condition is literal: “Catch dinner for the lady in the forest”. Dinner has to be delivered — pick the body up and walk it back to the woman who gave you the bait. 83.1% of players have it (global Steam stats read on 31 August 2026).

Seagulls do not steal boss meat, so the body is safe on the way back.

Killscore on bosses

A boss is a convenient target for stacking the multiplier: 360, No Scope, Longshot and Last Bullet all count against it. The one exception is Overkill ×1.25, which never triggers on bosses because their health always exceeds the threshold. The full breakdown is in the killscore guide.

Next up

The third boss is the pufferfish in the desert, and that trade needs a rare fish. The order of all five bosses is in the all bosses guide, and the bait table is here.

Frequently asked questions

What bait does the Giant Piranha take?

Leech Bait and nothing else. The beginner, standard, professional and scientific lures will never pull this boss up, however long you cast.

Where do you get Leech Bait?

From the woman on the rock in the forest. Bring her three leeches and she hands over the finished bait.

Why is “Dinnertime” not unlocking?

The Steam condition reads “Catch dinner for the lady in the forest”: the piranha body has to be carried back to the same woman, not merely killed.

How many players have that achievement?

83.1% per the global Steam stats on 31 August 2026, making it the sixth most common achievement in the game.

Can you make the boss easier?

Yes. Patch 1.0.9 added difficulty modes: Easy gives creatures 25% less health and halves their damage, Hard adds 25% to both.
