These nine Red Dead Redemption 2 achievements sit in the middle of the list: fewer than a third of owners have them, but they’re not rare enough to count among the truly hard-to-get either. Below are the official Steam wordings, the percentage of players for each, and an honest flag wherever Valve shows no description at all.

The game has 51 Steam achievements in total. This is part one of the mid-rarity breakdown — what’s left once you strip out both the rarest achievements and the common ones that unlock themselves along the way.

First: where to check your own progress

Steam splits two different things, and it’s easy to mix them up.

  1. Your personal progress. Open Red Dead Redemption 2 in your Steam library — the game’s page has an achievements panel. It shows what’s already unlocked and what isn’t.
  2. Global stats. This is a separate page where Valve shows what share of all owners of the game have unlocked each achievement: Steam’s RDR2 stats page. Every percentage in this piece comes from there.

That second page doesn’t judge or advise. It only tells you how typical your result is. The game’s own official page sits on Rockstar Games — not a fan site, which matters because we only pull achievement descriptions from primary sources.

How to read the percentage

The percentage measures prevalence, not difficulty. Two very different causes can produce the same number:

  • the achievement is genuinely hard;
  • the achievement is easy, but the player simply never reached that part of the game or never bothered with that activity.

There’s no way to tell these apart from the number alone. So below we don’t call anything “hard” or “easy” — only “rarer” and “more common.”

⚠️ One more limit, more important than anything else in this piece: Steam gives you the condition, not the method. If the official description doesn’t say where to look, how long it takes, or which mission it’s tied to, we don’t fill that in ourselves. No fan wikis, guides, or videos were used here.

Condition known: single-player

Four achievements come with a developer description. Here it’s clear exactly what the game wants.

Achievement What the game requires Players
Extreme Personality Reach maximum or minimum Honor 20.0 %
It was THIS Big! Catch a fish weighing at least 16 lbs (7.3 kg) 19.0 %
Friends With Benefits Complete a Companion Activity at every camp 16.3 %
Self Sufficient Craft 30 unique items in Story Mode 13.3 %

Extreme Personality is the only one of the four that accepts two opposite outcomes. The game asks you to hit either end of the honor scale — it doesn’t matter which. Consistent behaviour in either direction counts; sitting in the middle doesn’t. Exactly how the scale moves, and what drives it, is game mechanics covered in our guide to RDR2’s honor system.

It was THIS Big! is framed purely around the catch’s weight. Steam names one exact threshold — 16 lbs (7.3 kg) — and nothing else: no species, no body of water, no tackle. Anything else you read about the “right spot” isn’t part of the official description.

Friends With Benefits requires a Companion Activity at every camp. The key word is “every”: doing it once isn’t enough, and since the camps change as the gang moves through the story, this achievement is tied to story progress. For who the companions are and what camp life involves, see the guide to the Van der Linde gang.

Self Sufficient is about crafting: 30 unique items, specifically in Story Mode. The word “unique” is doing all the work here — repeating the same recipe, going by the wording, doesn’t move you closer to the goal. Rockstar doesn’t publish a list of these items on the Steam page, nor any detail on what counts as a separate entry.

This is the rarest achievement in the set, at 13.3 %.

Condition known: multiplayer

Achievement What the game requires Players
Getting Started Red Dead Online: reach Rank 10 14.8 %

The only entry in this part of the list explicitly flagged as online. The condition is short: Rank 10 in Red Dead Online. How long that takes, and what the rank actually unlocks, isn’t explained in the official description.

There’s one practical takeaway: this achievement cannot be unlocked without launching the online mode. If you picked up the game for the story and never touched online, that’s the whole answer for why this one is still locked. For what Red Dead Online is and how to get into it, see our guide on getting started in RDO.

Four achievements Steam doesn’t describe

Here we have to stop and say the unflattering part plainly.

Achievement Players Official description
No Traitors 26.7 % not shown
Third Time Lucky 25.1 % not shown
Redemption 23.6 % not shown
Endless Summer 20.4 % not shown

For these four, Steam’s stats page shows no developer description. We know the name and the percentage — and that’s the extent of it.

What we do not do, and what we’d suggest you avoid too:

  • guessing the condition from the name (a name can be a metaphor, a joke, or a reference to something else);
  • assigning them to story or side content “by logic” — there’s no official basis for that split;
  • repeating fan-made descriptions, since those aren’t primary sources.

Worth noting: these same four are the most common achievements in the set. “No Traitors” has the highest percentage of all nine, and “Endless Summer” — the lowest of this group — is still higher than any achievement with a known condition. In other words, the undescribed achievements here unlock more often than the ones that explicitly ask you to fish or craft.

What we’re not claiming

  • That this set is “the complete mid-rarity list.” This is part one; the rest is covered separately.
  • That the percentages are fixed. This is live Steam data — it shifts as new people buy the game. The numbers here are a snapshot from the stats page, not a constant.
  • That the in-game descriptions and the Steam ones are identical. We’re quoting the wording from Valve’s page.
  • That there’s a “correct order” to unlock these. Rockstar has never published one.

For the other bands of the list, see the overview of RDR2 Steam achievements and the separate breakdown of the rarest achievements.

In short

Of the nine mid-rarity achievements, five come with a clear official description (honor, a 16 lbs (7.3 kg) fish, a Companion Activity at every camp, 30 crafted items, Rank 10 online), while for four Steam shows no condition at all — and the honest move is to just say so rather than guess from the name.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I check my Red Dead Redemption 2 achievement progress on Steam?

Open the game in your Steam library — the game's page has an achievements panel showing what you've already unlocked. Overall stats across all owners live on a separate Valve page at steamcommunity.com/stats/1174180/achievements/.

How many achievements does Red Dead Redemption 2 have in total?

51 Steam achievements. This piece covers only a slice of them — the ones that are neither the rarest nor the most common.

What does the percentage next to an achievement mean?

It's the share of Steam owners of the game who've unlocked it. The lower the percentage, the rarer the achievement — but that's a measure of prevalence, not difficulty.

What fish do I need for "It was THIS Big!"?

Per the official description, a fish weighing at least 16 lbs (7.3 kg). Steam names neither the species nor the location.

Can you get every achievement without Red Dead Online?

No. At the very least, "Getting Started" explicitly requires reaching Rank 10 in Red Dead Online, so it can't be unlocked without the multiplayer mode.

Why do some achievement descriptions say nothing at all?

Steam's stats page doesn't show a developer description for a handful of achievements. We don't invent a condition to fill the gap — we just flag that it's unknown from the official source.
