RDR 2 Steam Achievements: The Mid-Rarity Tier
Contents
These Red Dead Redemption 2 achievements don’t drop on their own during a normal playthrough: Steam’s stats show a minority of owners have them, and each one requires a separate, deliberate action. This is the middle of the list — not the mass rewards tied to the prologue, and not the single-digit records held by the most dedicated players.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has 51 achievements on Steam in total. We’ve covered the most common ones separately, and the rarest ones too; this piece is about what’s left in between. It follows on from the first part of the full list.
Where to check your progress on Steam
Before chasing rewards, it’s worth seeing what you already have.
- Open your Steam library and go to the Red Dead Redemption 2 page.
- Scroll down the game’s page — there’s an achievements block showing your personal progress: what’s unlocked, what isn’t.
- The same list is available through your Steam profile, under the games section, where progress shows up per game.
- Overall stats across all players sit on a separate page — that’s where every percentage in this article comes from.
One detail people often miss: if your profile or game details are hidden by privacy settings, you’ll see your own list, but nobody else will.
How to read the percentage
The percentage next to an achievement is the share of Steam owners who’ve unlocked it. Valve calculates it automatically, without any input from Rockstar.
What follows from that:
- A low percentage doesn’t mean “hard.” It means “few people did it.” The reasons vary: the condition might demand a lot of repetitive actions, it might sit in multiplayer, or the player simply moved on from the game earlier.
- The percentage is calculated across all owners, including people who never launched the game at all. That’s why even the simplest rewards never reach every single owner.
- It’s a snapshot of statistics, not a fixed constant. The number moves over time.
Single-player: story and camp
Lending a Hand — 9.5%. The official description requires completing every optional honor-related story mission. That means not the main storyline, but the extra episodes the game offers on the side. Steam doesn’t list which missions these are or where to find them — only the condition’s wording. We’ve covered the mechanic behind them in our piece on the honor system.
Errand Boy — 8.3%. The condition: deliver 5 item requests from camp companions. This is part of everyday gang life — someone in camp asks you to bring something, you bring it. The number is small and fixed, yet the percentage is still low: most players skip past these requests because the game doesn’t lead you to them directly. For who these companions are, see our piece on the Van der Linde gang.
Single-player: side activities
Western Stranger — 11.3%. Requires finishing 10 stranger mission chains. Strangers are separate story branches outside the main line, each made up of several parts; the condition specifically refers to completed chains, not individual episodes. This is the most common achievement in this group after the multiplayer “Strength in Numbers,” and it’s easy to see why: these branches turn up naturally as you travel the world.
Hobby Horse — 10.2%. A short condition: play every mini-game. How many there are and which ones exactly, the official description doesn’t say, and we won’t invent a list. This is a case where Steam gives exactly one sentence, and nothing more.
Collector’s Item — 5.7%. The rarest achievement covered here. Requires completing one of the collectible chains. Formally, the condition is lenient — one chain is enough, not all of them. And yet the number is the lowest of the group: collecting is a long grind, and few players see it through.
Red Dead Online: first steps in multiplayer
Here’s the key point: these achievements are marked Red Dead Online in their official description. They won’t unlock in single-player. If you haven’t touched multiplayer yet, start with our piece on getting started in RDO.
Strength in Numbers — 13.0%. The most common achievement in the group. The condition: complete a free roam mission with at least 2 members in your posse. In other words, you need at least one other person alongside you.
Gun For Hire — 8.3%. Accept 10 free roam missions from characters scattered around the world. The condition specifies accepting missions, not finishing them.
Series Major — 6.7%. Take part in a Series. No count is specified — participation alone is enough. This is one of the rarest entries on the list, despite looking like the easiest condition: most owners simply never touch multiplayer.
Red Dead Online: hunting, crafting, rewards
Butchered — 9.7%. Sell 20 items to the butcher. This follows directly from hunting — a topic we’ve covered separately in our piece on pelt quality.
Picked to Perfection — 8.2%. Collect 25 herbs. The simplest condition on this list in terms of content: gathering plants out in the world.
Master Craftsman — 6.9%. Craft 20 items, not counting ammunition. The note about ammunition comes straight from the official description — it’s not our own interpretation.
Buckle Up — 10.2%. Earn 5 gold buckles from rewards. Steam doesn’t explain here which rewards grant buckles or how quickly they add up.

What we’re not claiming
This section matters more than any guesswork, which is why it stands on its own.
- We don’t know how long each achievement takes. Rockstar hasn’t said, and neither has Steam.
- We don’t name specific missions, characters, or locations unless they appear in the official description. For instance, “Hobby Horse” comes with no list of mini-games attached — and we’re not compiling one.
- We don’t provide coordinates or routes. Steam gives the wording of the condition, and that’s the full extent of it.
- We don’t explain what rewards grant gold buckles — the official “Buckle Up” description doesn’t cover that.
- We’re not claiming a low percentage equals high difficulty. These are two different things, and Steam’s statistics can’t tell them apart.

Short version
This is the mid-rarity group of Red Dead Redemption 2 achievements: some are completed in single-player (strangers, honor missions, camp requests, collectibles, mini-games), others only in Red Dead Online (posses, free roam missions, gathering, crafting, buckles). Steam shows only the condition and the player percentage — anything beyond that would have to be invented, and we don’t do that.
Frequently asked questions
How many achievements does Red Dead Redemption 2 have in total?
The Steam version has 51. This piece covers the mid-rarity part of the list — the achievements that fall between the most common and the rarest.
Where do I check which achievements I already have on Steam?
Open the game's page in your Steam library — there's an achievements block showing your personal progress. The same list is also available through your profile, under the games section.
What does the percentage next to an achievement mean?
It's the share of game owners who've unlocked it. Valve calculates this automatically and displays it on the game's stats page — the lower the percentage, the rarer the achievement.
How many of these achievements require Red Dead Online?
Some carry a "Red Dead Online" tag in their official description — that's the multiplayer side. The rest are completed in single-player.
Does Steam explain exactly how to complete an achievement's condition?
No. Steam gives only a name and a one-sentence condition. There are no step-by-step instructions, coordinates, or lists of specific missions, and we don't invent them.
Why does one achievement in this group show a percentage twice as high as another?
Because the conditions demand different amounts of effort and sit in different parts of the game. For instance, "Strength in Numbers" sits at 13.0%, while "Collector's Item" is at 5.7%.
