Bloodseeker is a melee hero with agility as his primary attribute, and Valve rates his difficulty as 1 out of 3 — the lowest mark on its own scale. He’s a hero often recommended for first tries precisely because he has few points of failure: a short attack range, high base armour, and fast agility growth.
Everything below comes only from Valve’s official feed and the hero page. No item builds, no win rates, no tier lists — we don’t have that data, and we’re not going to invent it.

Attack range 150: what it means in practice
That’s a melee hero’s number. Bloodseeker hits up close — to land any auto-attack damage at all, he has to be physically standing next to his target.
Two things follow from that, and you’ll feel both in your first few matches.
First: positioning matters more than click accuracy. This hero has no default “safe distance” — everything he does with his hands happens in a zone where he can be hit right back.
Second: last-hitting creeps on the lane plays out differently from a ranged hero. You walk up, stand inside the enemy’s attack radius, and can’t just step back half a screen. If that’s new to you, start with our separate guide on last hits and denies — it’s the stage where beginners most often trip themselves up, regardless of hero.
Stat growth: where the hero scales
Bloodseeker’s biggest gain per level is agility: +3.1, and that’s his primary attribute. The second-biggest number is strength, at +2.7. Intelligence grows the slowest of the three, at +2.
Here’s what that tells us without any guesswork:
- With levels, the hero gets faster and tougher at the same time — his strength gain trails his agility gain only slightly. This isn’t a “glass cannon” whose only growing number is damage.
- Intelligence is his weakest side, growth-wise. A hero whose primary attribute isn’t intelligence, and whose intelligence growth is the lowest of the three, doesn’t get meaningfully more mana-durable as levels go up.
His starting numbers are symmetrical too: strength 24 and agility 24 match exactly, while intelligence at 17 sits noticeably lower. So Bloodseeker starts the game balanced on “body” and weak on “mind” — and that gap only widens with levels.
Armour 6 and movement speed 285
Armour 6 is the number worth keeping in mind the first time you head to lane. Armour reduces incoming physical damage, and a hero with this much base armour holds up better in auto-attack trades than one with low armour.
But that only works against physical damage. Armour doesn’t help against magic — and that’s where a vulnerability worth knowing about in advance shows up: a hero with the lowest intelligence growth of the three stats has no “natural” cushion against magical trades. That’s not a prediction or item advice — it’s a direct read of his own numbers.
Movement speed 285 is his base mobility, before items and abilities. For a melee hero, movement speed is directly about whether you can catch a target — or get away yourself.
Abilities: five names
Bloodseeker has 5 abilities. Their official names in the client:
- Bloodrage
- Blood Rite
- Thirst
- Rupture
- Blood Bath (ultimate)
We’re stopping here, and here’s why.
The exact effect descriptions, cooldown values, and damage numbers are Valve’s text and data inside the game client. We’re not entitled to copy them, and paraphrasing “roughly” would risk inaccuracy exactly where accuracy matters. So: open the hero in the client or on the official page and read the descriptions there. They’re always fresher than any guide, since they update with each patch — and updates and patches are worth tracking separately for that reason.
⚠️ What we don’t claim in this section: which skill order is correct, which abilities are “strong” and which are “weak,” or how long any of them lasts. Those numbers exist in the game — they just aren’t in our source, so we’re not writing them at all.
Talent tree: 8 talents
Bloodseeker’s talent tree has 8 talents. That’s the whole fact we have.
What each one does and which to pick — read that on the hero screen in the client. Talents get rebalanced regularly, so any “correct pick” written into a guide goes stale silently, and you won’t notice.
Difficulty 1 of 3 — and what it doesn’t promise
Valve rates hero difficulty on a three-level scale, and Bloodseeker sits at 1. That’s the lowest mark.
What that means: the developer considers this hero mechanically simple to control. What it doesn’t mean: that you’ll win. The difficulty rating describes the barrier to entry for controlling the hero, not the match outcome. A melee hero with a 150 attack range still requires judgement about when to engage and when not to — no “1 of 3” label decides that for you.
If you’ve only just started playing, heroes with a lower difficulty rating are a sensible way to avoid drowning in micro while you’re still learning the map. A broader starter list is in our guide to heroes for beginners.
What we don’t claim about Bloodseeker
Short and direct, so you don’t have to hunt for it elsewhere in this text:
- Team position. It’s not in Valve’s feed. What positions even are is covered in our guide to team positions, but we can’t assign Bloodseeker a specific one.
- Item build. No data on this. We’re not giving you a “standard shopping list.” The general logic behind starting purchases is in our guide to starting items.
- Win rate, popularity, tier-list placement. These numbers aren’t in our source, so they’re not in this text either.
- Who he’s strong against and who counters him. That’s a claim about balance, not about stats. We’re not making it.
How to try the hero without unnecessary pain
A practical order of steps that doesn’t rely on any invented numbers:
- Open Bloodseeker in the client and read the descriptions of all five abilities and the talent tree — that’s the primary source, not a paraphrase.
- Try him outside ranked first. How matchmaking works and why it exists is covered in matchmaking and MMR.
- In your first matches, watch not your kill count but whether you can hold the lane and last-hit with a 150 attack range.
- If you’re still fuzzy on the basics — the map, timing, game phases — go through your first hour in Dota 2 and come back to the hero after that.
In short
Bloodseeker is a melee agility hero with a 150 attack range, 6 armour, 285 movement speed, and a Valve difficulty rating of 1 of 3: a mechanically simple entry point, five abilities, and 8 talents whose descriptions you need to read in the client itself. Our source has no builds, no positions, and no win rates — so this guide doesn’t have them either.
