Earthshaker is a melee hero whose primary attribute is strength, with 5 abilities, an 8-talent tree, and an official difficulty rating of 2 out of 3. In Valve’s hero list he’s ID 7, and his official hero page is dota2.com/hero/earthshaker.

Below is exactly what Valve’s official feed says about him, how to read those numbers, and what to expect from the hero the first time you pick him.

Stats, per the official feed

Stat Value
Primary attribute strength
Strength 22 (+3.7 per level)
Agility 12 (+1.4 per level)
Intelligence 18 (+2.1 per level)
Attack range 150
Base damage 49–59
Armour 4
Movement speed 315
Valve difficulty rating 2 of 3
Number of abilities 5
Talents in the tree 8

That’s the full set of numbers we have from the primary source. Everything below explains these figures — it doesn’t introduce new ones.

What these numbers mean in practice

A 150 attack range means melee. To land a hit, Earthshaker has to walk right up to his target. For a beginner, this is the single most important fact about him: he can’t safely poke from a distance the way ranged heroes do. Everything he does to an enemy starts with closing the gap — either on foot or with an ability.

A 3.7 strength gain per level is the biggest of his three growth stats. Strength governs health pool, so with every level Earthshaker gets noticeably tougher to kill. His starting 22 strength alone doesn’t make him a tank, but a levelled-up Earthshaker takes hits far better than one who hasn’t gained levels.

A 1.4 agility gain is the smallest of the three. Agility governs armour and attack speed. With a base armour of 4 and a slow agility gain, the practical takeaway is simple: Earthshaker doesn’t hold up well against physical damage on his own, and any improvement here has to come from items rather than levels.

Intelligence sits at 18, growing by 2.1 per level. Intelligence governs mana pool. For a hero whose value lives in his abilities rather than his auto-attack, this isn’t a side stat — run out of mana and Earthshaker becomes an ordinary melee character with 49–59 base damage, which isn’t much.

Movement speed is 315. This is the number that decides whether you can get into position before a fight and out of it afterwards. For a melee hero who has to close distance to do anything, positioning is half the job.

Abilities: what the official feed says

Valve’s feed lists 5 abilities for Earthshaker. In the game client, their names are Fissure, Enchant Totem, Aftershock, Echo Slam and Reactive Armour. We’re keeping these as the names you’ll see in-game — if you want to check interface language options, see our guide to Dota 2’s language settings.

Here’s what each does in plain terms, without numbers — for exact damage, radius, duration and cooldown values, check the client directly, since those change with updates:

  • Fissure — Earthshaker raises a stone wall out of the ground along a line in front of him. Enemies caught on that line take damage and briefly lose control of their character. The wall itself temporarily blocks the path — and that’s often more important than the damage: it can cut off part of the enemy team from a fight or block a retreat route.
  • Enchant Totem — a self-buff on his next attack. Earthshaker charges his next hit so it lands far harder than a normal one. For a hero with 49–59 base damage, this is essentially how he deals any meaningful damage with his weapon at all.
  • Aftershock — a passive. Whenever Earthshaker casts an ability, the ground around him shakes, dealing extra damage and briefly disabling nearby enemies. Because of this, every ability he casts in the middle of a fight “costs” the enemy more than the ability’s own description suggests.
  • Echo Slam — a ground slam that sends out a shockwave around the hero and bounces off everyone it hits. The more tightly enemies are clustered, the more painful this is for them. That’s why Earthshaker favours fights in choke points and dislikes it when the enemy spreads out across the map.
  • Reactive Armour — the name appears in the official feed, and that’s where our verified data ends. We’re not going to describe the mechanic here, because we don’t want to guess: check the in-game description, which is complete and current.

Talents

Earthshaker’s talent tree has 8 talents. We’re not listing their specific effects — they’re tied to the current balance patch and change along with game updates. The practical takeaway for a beginner is simple: talents aren’t a “build” to memorise, they’re a choice you make for the specific match, reading the description on the spot.

Strengths and weaknesses — strictly from the stats

Strength Why
Grows tankier with levels 3.7 strength gain — his biggest growth stat
Shapes fights through abilities, not auto-attacks 49–59 base damage is modest, and he has 5 abilities to work with
Every action hits wider than it looks the passive Aftershock adds an effect around the hero
Weakness Why
Has to close the distance 150 attack range
Holds up poorly against physical damage alone 4 armour and only a 1.4 agility gain
Depends on mana 2.1 intelligence gain while relying on abilities
Positioning mistakes are costly 315 movement speed with no built-in escape

What we’re not claiming

  • We’re not giving cooldowns, radii, durations or damage numbers for his abilities. Our official source doesn’t contain those figures, and we won’t invent or “roughly recall” them.
  • We’re not offering tier lists, win rates or “best item builds.” We don’t have that data.
  • We’re not saying which team position he “should” be played in. Valve doesn’t define that in the hero’s stats.
  • We’re not promising that picking Earthshaker will win you games. A hero is a set of numbers and abilities, not a guaranteed result.

Where a beginner should start

  1. Take him into a bot match or training mode. The goal of your first session isn’t winning — it’s getting a feel for that 150 attack range and how close you actually need to stand.
  2. Read the descriptions of all 5 abilities directly in the client — with the current cooldown and mana cost numbers. That’s the only source that’s always up to date.
  3. Check whether you have enough mana to chain a few abilities in a row. A 2.1 intelligence gain means your mana pool is modest at low levels.
  4. Watch your positioning. With a movement speed of 315 and 4 armour, this hero doesn’t forgive walking into a fight blind.
  5. Don’t rush your talent picks. When you reach a choice from the 8-talent tree, read both options and pick for the situation in that match.

If this is your very first hero, start with our general guide to heroes for beginners and our piece on last hits and denies: basic creep-farming mechanics work the same way regardless of hero, and without them Earthshaker’s stats won’t do much on their own.

In short

Earthshaker is a melee strength hero with a 150 attack range, 4 armour, 315 movement speed and difficulty 2 of 3: he grows tankier thanks to a 3.7 strength gain but holds up poorly against physical damage, and he does almost everything through his 5 abilities. For exact cooldowns, damage figures and the effects of his 8 talents, check the game client — we’re not making those up.
