How to Fish is translated into 16 languages, all 16 with full audio. We asked Steam for the review count in each of them separately, and the picture looks little like the sales map of a typical indie game.

Three things that jump out

Chinese is the game second language. 8,538 reviews in Simplified Chinese is nearly double the Russian count and thirty-two times the Ukrainian one. For an indie title with no Chinese publisher, that is unusually high.

Swedish is the only language at 100 percent. 115 reviews, zero negative. It is the smallest group in the table and also the developers home language: the studio profile on X lists Skovde, Sweden. Small samples reach 100 percent easily, so this says nothing reliable about localisation quality.

Chinese players are the toughest. Simplified Chinese has the lowest positive share in the table at 91.0 percent, meaning 767 negative reviews. English sits at 95.9 percent and Italian at 99.1 percent. We did not establish the reason: that would require reading the reviews, not counting them.

Ukrainian: 262 reviews

Ukrainian holds 262 reviews, 242 of them positive — 92.4 percent. That is slightly below the game average of 94.9 percent and roughly level with Traditional Chinese.

Ukrainian is on the supported list, with voice-over, exactly like the other fifteen. So this is not a case of a missing translation.

Why the sum does not match

Add up all 16 rows and you get 42,871 reviews. The game total is 43,770. The gap is 899 reviews, or 2.1 percent.

Those are reviews written in languages that are not among the 16 supported ones. Steam counts them in the overall total but gives them no row, because the filter only offers the game own interface languages. How to Fish has no Dutch, no Czech, no Arabic — and judging by this gap, reviews in such languages exist anyway.

What we deliberately do not do

We do not turn reviews into sales. The share of players who write a review at all differs by language and country, and none of our sources measures it. So the table above maps who writes, not who buys.

We did not read the reviews. Every number here is a Steam count, not our text analysis. What exactly upset those 767 Chinese players remains unestablished.
