GTA 6 system requirements: why they don't exist yet
The date may change — we follow official announcements and update this page.
Contents
There are no official GTA 6 system requirements. Not “not published yet” — they do not exist, because Rockstar has not announced a PC version. Without a platform announcement there are no requirements for it.
That is an inconvenient answer, so most sites route around it: they publish a table of graphics cards, label it “minimum / recommended”, and omit that they made it up. Below is what is actually known.
Why the requirement tables online are invented
You can verify this in a minute. Official requirements always have three marks:
- the developer or publisher publishes them on their own page;
- they are tied to a specific release date on that platform;
- they appear on the game’s store card — Steam, Epic, the Microsoft Store.
GTA 6 has none of the three. The game is not on Steam, not on Epic, and PC is not listed among the platforms on Rockstar’s site. So the source for “official requirements” physically does not exist.
What is known for certain: the hardware the game is built for
Here there is a real answer. GTA 6 is launching on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — which means the game is obliged to run on the weakest console on that list. That is the Xbox Series S, and its specifications are published officially:
| Component | Xbox Series S — the confirmed target |
|---|---|
| CPU | 8 cores, AMD Zen 2, 3.6 GHz (with SMT) |
| GPU | RDNA 2, 20 CUs, ~4 teraflops |
| Memory | 10 GB GDDR6 (8 GB fast + 2 GB slow) |
| Storage | NVMe SSD, 512 GB |
For comparison, the PS5 delivers ~10.3 teraflops and 16 GB, and the Xbox Series X ~12.2 teraflops and 16 GB. So the spread of target hardware inside the console version alone is roughly threefold on graphics.
What that means in practice. Rockstar has already solved the problem of “how do we make this game run on 4 teraflops and 10 GB”. That is not a forecast and not a leak — it follows from the platform list itself.
⚠️ From here on it is reasoning, not fact: translating console figures into a specific PC graphics card model cannot be done correctly. A console has unified memory, its own API and optimisation for a single configuration; a PC of the same nominal “level” behaves differently. So we do not name a GPU model here — that would be the same invention, just more carefully phrased.
How much space GTA 6 will take
Rockstar has not published an install size. Historically the studio names it four to eight weeks before release, so around October 2026.
The only thing to lean on here is Rockstar’s own precedent. Red Dead Redemption 2 lists 150 GB in its Steam requirements; GTA V lists 125 GB (Legacy) and 105 GB (Enhanced). That is the upper bound of the measured precedents, not a forecast — GTA 6 could turn out smaller or larger, and we do not know which.
For a PS5 owner even 150 GB is significant. The box says 825 GB, but Sony reserves part of the drive for system software, so less than that is actually available. The full breakdown, with every console’s capacity, is in our piece on GTA 6’s file size.
⚠️ The “677 GB” screenshot that spread across social media has no source whatsoever. Do not treat it as the number to size a drive against.
When real requirements will appear
At the same time a PC version does — and none has been announced. Rockstar’s history: GTA 5 launched on consoles in September 2013 and on PC in April 2015; Red Dead Redemption 2 hit consoles in autumn 2018 and PC in late 2019. Requirements were published a few weeks before the PC release, not years ahead of it.
Take-Two’s leadership has publicly acknowledged that PC is a large market and that the PC share of industry sales is substantial. But acknowledging a market is not announcing a date. As of August 2026 there is no PC date.
What to do now
- Do not buy hardware for GTA 6. Buying a graphics card for a game that has neither requirements nor a release date on your platform is a blind bet. By the time a PC release plausibly arrives, a GPU generation will have turned over.
- If you plan to play in November, the question is not hardware but console. You need a PS5 or an Xbox Series S/X. The Series S is the cheapest entry and an officially supported platform.
- Free up 150 GB, with room to spare. It is the one piece of preparation that certainly will not be wasted: preload starts on 12 November, and you will need the space before the exact size is known. 150 GB is Rockstar’s largest precedent, so treat it as a reference point rather than a ceiling.
We will update this page the day Rockstar announces a PC version or publishes the install size. We are not going to invent those numbers before then.
Frequently asked questions
What are the official GTA 6 system requirements?
There are none. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, and without a platform announcement there are no official requirements for it. Any table of graphics cards you see online is somebody's guess.
Will GTA 6 run on my PC?
That cannot be answered while there is no PC version. The only confirmed reference point is the Xbox Series S: an 8-core Zen 2, a 4-teraflop RDNA 2 GPU and 10 GB of memory. The game is being built to run at that level.
How much space will GTA 6 take?
Rockstar has not published a figure. The only measurable reference point is the studio's own precedent: Red Dead Redemption 2 lists 150 GB in its Steam requirements. That is an upper bound from precedent, not a forecast of GTA 6's size. The '677 GB' screenshot doing the rounds on social media has no source at all.
When will real PC requirements appear?
Alongside the announcement of a PC version, which has not happened yet. Historically Rockstar publishes requirements a few weeks before a PC release, not years ahead.
Does GTA 6 need an SSD?
On consoles, yes — they are built on NVMe SSDs and the game is designed around that speed. For a hypothetical PC version there is no official requirement, but the HDD has already left the field as a target medium.
