Co-op here is not a separate mode — it is the same campaign with other people dropping into it. Everything you read about bosses and bait therefore works identically solo and with eight players.

Eight players, not four

At launch the limit was lower. Patch 1.0.4, 21 August 2026 raised it to eight players per lobby — the most visible change of the first week. The same patch banned special characters in server names.

Private lobbies and session types

Patch 1.0.5 (22 August) added three things at once for people playing with friends:

  • invite-only private lobbies — no random joins;
  • changing the session type in-game, without going back to the main menu;
  • a fix against a griefer who could instantly end the session for everyone else.

That last one is a safety fix rather than a convenience: before it, one person could ruin the game for all eight.

Difficulty: Easy and Hard

Patch 1.0.9 (24 August) added difficulty modes with concrete numbers:

Mode Creature health Creature damage
Easy −25% −50%
Hard +25% +25%

Note the asymmetry: Easy halves incoming damage but cuts health by only a quarter. The easy mode is primarily about not dying, not about killing faster. Hard is symmetrical instead: +25% on both.

When the connection will not hold

The same 1.0.9 patch added a Steam relay connection status line to the main menu. The logic is simple: red text means a network-side problem, and the developers ask you to report it in the #common-bugs channel on their Discord rather than guess.

Patch 1.0.10 (27 August) additionally lengthened the connection timeout — aimed squarely at players whose connection took longer than the old limit to establish.

Small things that broke shared play

  • 1.0.10 removed rich text from chat — it was being abused.
  • 1.0.10 fixed a race condition where a seagull and a player picked up the same item simultaneously.
  • 1.0.6 (23 August) made saving more robust: the file is checked before loading, the game saves on returning to the menu and on quitting, plus an autosave every minute. 1.0.9 separately fixed save corruption.

The one mechanic that changes in co-op

The Killsteal ×1.30 multiplier is awarded for finishing off someone else’s target. There is nowhere to earn it solo — it is a purely co-operative killscore bonus. The full multiplier table is here.

Frequently asked questions

How many players does co-op support?

Eight. The limit was raised by patch 1.0.4 on 21 August 2026.

How do I make a lobby private?

Patch 1.0.5 added invite-only private lobbies, and the session type can now be changed in-game without returning to the menu.

What do the difficulty modes do?

Patch 1.0.9 added Easy (−25% creature health and −50% creature damage) and Hard (+25% health and +25% damage).

What do I do if I cannot connect?

Since patch 1.0.9 the main menu shows a Steam relay connection status line. If the text is red, the developers ask you to report it in the #common-bugs channel on their Discord.

Can I play solo?

Yes. The game can be completed entirely alone; co-op only speeds things up and makes bosses easier.
