There is no PC version of GTA 6 at launch. On 19 November 2026 the game arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only — Rockstar said so itself in its Newswire on 6 August 2026, three months out from release.

So the real question is not whether a PC version ever happens. It is when. And two dates from Rockstar’s own history answer that better than any rumour.

What Rockstar actually said

The wording in the official Newswire is unambiguous: the game arrives on 19 November on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That is the whole list. PC is not mentioned — not in that post, and not on the game’s Rockstar Store page.

Take that literally: the PC version has not merely gone undated, it has not been announced. Rockstar has never confirmed one is in development. Everything else is inference, including the arithmetic below.

The precedent: how long PC waited last time

Rockstar has done this before. These dates come from the company’s own Newswire, and every one of them can be opened and checked.

Game Consoles PC Gap
Grand Theft Auto V 17.09.2013 (PS3, Xbox 360) 14.04.2015 1 year 7 months
Red Dead Redemption 2 26.10.2018 (PS4, Xbox One) 05.11.2019 1 year and 10 days

Two releases, two different gaps. A little over a year at best, nearly eighteen months at worst. That is the realistic range.

RDR 2 carries a detail that often gets dropped: on 5 November 2019 it launched in Rockstar’s own launcher and on the Epic Games Store, and it did not reach Steam until 5 December 2019, a month later. So “the PC version is out” and “it is on your storefront” are not always the same day.

The uncomfortable detail about GTA 5

Here is the fact that shows where PC actually sits in Rockstar’s queue.

GTA 5 launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013. A year and two months later, on 18 November 2014, it launched on an entire new console generation — PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Only after that, five months later again, did it reach PC.

PC was not simply waiting its turn. Two console platforms were let through ahead of it, one of which was not even on sale when the game was first announced.

When a PC version is realistic

Now put the numbers in. Console release: 19 November 2026.

  • On the RDR 2 pattern (gap ≈ 1 year): late 2027.
  • On the GTA 5 pattern (gap ≈ 1 year 7 months): mid 2028.

That gives a window of roughly late 2027 to mid 2028.

⚠️ To be plain about it: that is not a Rockstar forecast, it is our arithmetic over two previous releases. The company has promised nothing of the kind. Two data points are far too few to call a pattern, GTA 6 spent longer in development than either of those games, and a single management decision can move the date in either direction. We do not name a month precisely because no one can name one honestly.

What we are not claiming

  • That a PC version will definitely happen. It is very likely on precedent, but it is not officially confirmed.
  • That it will land in 2027 or 2028 specifically. That is an estimate, not a date.
  • That leaked system requirements exist. There are no official requirements because there is no announced PC version — we go through that in the piece on GTA 6 system requirements.

If you see an exact GTA 6 PC release date anywhere, it is invented. As of August 2026 no source for such a date exists.

What to do now if you play on PC

  1. Do not upgrade your PC for GTA 6. There are no requirements and no date. Hardware bought today will have dropped substantially in price before the game actually arrives.
  2. Do not buy a console purely for GTA 6 without doing the maths. What is launching and where is covered in our piece on platforms, and what it costs is in the price and editions breakdown.
  3. Wait for an announcement, not a leak. Rockstar announces PC versions in a dedicated Newswire post — that is exactly how both GTA 5 and RDR 2 went.

We will update this page the day Rockstar says anything at all about PC. We will not invent a date on the company’s behalf — the confirmed console release is covered in our piece on the GTA 6 release date.

The summary in one sentence

GTA 6 has no announced PC version at all, and on the precedents of GTA 5 (1 year 7 months) and RDR 2 (1 year) a realistic window is late 2027 to mid 2028 — our estimate, not Rockstar’s promise.

Frequently asked questions

Will GTA 6 come to PC?

Not at launch. Rockstar confirmed PS5 and Xbox Series X/S only. A PC version has not been announced at all — there is no date and no confirmation that one is even in development.

When will GTA 6 release on PC?

There is no official date. Going by Rockstar's previous games, the gap between console and PC ran from one year (RDR 2) to one year and seven months (GTA 5). That is an estimate from precedent, not an announcement.

How long did GTA 5 take to reach PC?

One year and seven months. It launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 on 17 September 2013 and on PC on 14 April 2015.

How long did Red Dead Redemption 2 take to reach PC?

Just over a year: consoles on 26 October 2018, PC on 5 November 2019. It did not arrive on Steam until 5 December 2019, a month later still.

Are there official GTA 6 PC system requirements?

Not yet. Official requirements are published alongside a PC announcement, and there has been no announcement. Anything circulating online as GTA 6 PC requirements is invented.

Will GTA 6 be playable on PC through cloud streaming?

Rockstar has made no announcement about cloud services. We will not guess on the company's behalf — we will update this page when there is an official statement.

Should I upgrade my PC for GTA 6 now?

No. Buying hardware for a game with no PC version, no requirements and no date means spending money about two years before you need to.
