Red Dead Redemption 2 Steam Achievements: Part Three
Contents
The seven achievements covered here — “Artificial Intelligence,” “Posse Up,” “Notorious,” “Home Comforts,” “Skin Deep,” “Zoologist,” and “Paying Respects” — sit in the middle of the list: noticeably fewer players have them than the story achievements that unlock almost automatically, but they don’t rank among the rarest either. Below is exactly what each official description requires, and what the player percentage says about rarity.
The Steam version of Red Dead Redemption 2 has 51 achievements in total. The most common ones are covered in a separate article, the rarest ones in another one, and the start of the full list is in part one.
Where to check your own progress on Steam
Before digging into everyone else’s stats, it helps to know your own. Steam has two separate places for this, and they show different things.
- Your own progress. Open Red Dead Redemption 2’s page in your Steam library and find the achievements tab. It lists what’s already unlocked and what isn’t, along with unlock dates.
- Global stats across all players. This is a separate Steam stats page for the game. Every percentage in this article comes from there — Valve shows what share of the game’s owners has unlocked each achievement.
The distinction matters: one is about you, the other is about everyone. When someone calls an achievement “rare,” they almost always mean the second page.
What the percentage actually tells you
The percentage measures prevalence, not difficulty. It blends together at least three different things:
- how many people even reached the relevant point in the game;
- how many of them knew the condition existed in the first place;
- how many ever went into the multiplayer side at all, if the achievement is tied to it.
That’s why a low percentage on a multiplayer achievement and a low percentage on a story achievement mean different things. The first often says “most owners simply never played Red Dead Online.” The second says “the condition is long or non-obvious.”
One more point: Rockstar doesn’t publish explanations for why a given achievement turned out rare. All we can honestly do is read the official description and quote the number.
Story mode
Artificial Intelligence — 5.6%
The most common achievement in this set of seven. The official description requires finding out what happened to a character named Marko Dragic. The wording states the goal but not the path — it names neither a location, nor an order of actions, nor how many times you need to return to this character.
Steam only gives the condition. How exactly it’s fulfilled isn’t explained in the description, and we’re not going to guess.
Paying Respects — 2.9%
The rarest achievement in our selection. Its distinguishing feature is that the description isn’t shown on the Steam stats page — there’s a name and a percentage, but no wording of the condition.
It’s a rare but real case: not every entry in the achievement list has public text attached. We won’t paraphrase what Rockstar hasn’t written. Exactly two facts are known here: the name, and 2.9% of players.
Side activities: animals
Two achievements in this group are about interacting with wildlife in story mode. Both are phrased around the word “every,” and that word is exactly what makes them long.
Skin Deep — 3.6%
The condition: skin every species of animal in story mode. Not a certain number of animals — every species.
Steam’s description doesn’t state how many species that is, so neither do we. The description also says nothing about pelt quality: the requirement is about the fact of skinning, not about grading the result. If you’re curious what determines the quality of a hunt, that’s a separate topic covered in our guide to hunting and pelt quality.
Zoologist — 3.4%
The condition: study every animal across all the states in story mode. This one isn’t about hunting — it’s about studying — and it covers every state, not just one region.
Zoologist is slightly rarer than Skin Deep, though the gap between them is small. Going by the official descriptions, both come down to full coverage of a list the game itself doesn’t show you anywhere in the Steam stats.
Red Dead Online
Three of the seven achievements are explicitly flagged as multiplayer: each description names Red Dead Online. That’s an important detail — they simply cannot unlock in story mode. If you haven’t touched the multiplayer side yet, this guide is the place to start.
Posse Up — 5.4%
The condition: form a Persistent Posse in Red Dead Online. The description names the type of posse but doesn’t explain how a persistent posse differs from a temporary one, or what’s needed to create it. Once again, Steam gives the wording of the condition — and nothing beyond it.
Notorious — 4.7%
The condition: reach rank 50 in Red Dead Online. This is the only achievement in the set with a specific numerical threshold in its official description.
Rockstar doesn’t state on the stats page how long it takes to reach that rank — we’re not giving any “how many hours” estimates.
Home Comforts — 4.2%
The condition: purchase 5 camp upgrades in Red Dead Online. This one also has an exact number in its description, and it’s a small one — but purchases mean the in-game economy, and therefore time spent earning.
Summary table
| Achievement | What the official description requires | Players |
|---|---|---|
| Artificial Intelligence | find out the fate of the character Marko Dragic | 5.6% |
| Posse Up | form a Persistent Posse in Red Dead Online | 5.4% |
| Notorious | reach rank 50 in Red Dead Online | 4.7% |
| Home Comforts | buy 5 camp upgrades in Red Dead Online | 4.2% |
| Skin Deep | skin every species of animal in story mode | 3.6% |
| Zoologist | study every animal across all states in story mode | 3.4% |
| Paying Respects | description not shown on the Steam stats page | 2.9% |
The table is ordered from most common to rarest, not alphabetically — that way you can see the multiplayer achievements sitting together in the middle, with the two animal “collect everything” achievements below them.
What we’re not claiming
This is the most important section, and it’s short.
- We’re not claiming how long any of these achievements takes. Rockstar gives no such estimates on the stats page.
- We’re not giving step-by-step instructions, coordinates, or mission names. Steam only gives the wording of the condition. Anything beyond that wording would have to come from fan sources — and we don’t rely on those.
- We’re not naming the number of animal species for Skin Deep and Zoologist: that figure isn’t in the official descriptions.
- We’re not paraphrasing the Paying Respects condition. It simply isn’t shown on the stats page.
- We’re not explaining why an achievement is rare. The percentage is a fact; any reason behind it is a guess.
If you come across an exact completion time or an “optimal route” for these achievements anywhere online, it isn’t official information from Steam or the publisher.
In short
The seven mid-tier achievements split into three groups: one story achievement with a known condition, one with no public description at all, two “cover everything” animal achievements in story mode, and three tied to Red Dead Online. For each one, Steam gives a name, a player percentage, and — almost always — a single sentence describing the condition. Anything more than that would have to be invented.
Frequently asked questions
How many achievements does Red Dead Redemption 2 have in total?
The Steam version of the game has 51 achievements. This article covers seven of them — the ones that fall into neither the rarest nor the most common group.
Where can I check which achievements I've already unlocked?
Open the game's page in your Steam library and go to the achievements tab — it shows what's unlocked and what isn't. Valve also publishes a separate global stats page showing how all owners of the game are doing.
What does the percentage next to an achievement mean?
It's the share of Steam owners of the game who've unlocked it. A lower percentage means a rarer achievement — but that's a measure of prevalence, not official difficulty.
Which of these achievements require Red Dead Online?
Three: "Posse Up," "Notorious," and "Home Comforts" — each one's description explicitly states the condition is met in Red Dead Online, not in the story mode.
Why doesn't the article include step-by-step instructions?
Because Steam only gives the wording of the condition, not a method for completing it. We paraphrase the official description and don't invent steps, coordinates, or mission names.
What about the "Paying Respects" achievement?
It's been unlocked by 2.9% of players — the rarest in our set of seven. Its description isn't shown on the Steam stats page, so we don't give a condition for it.
