Short answer: no. As of 13 August 2026 the official GTA 6 pages on the Xbox Store and the PlayStation Store sell the game for money and contain no subscription marker at all.

But simply saying “no” is not enough — every site says that, and none of them can be checked. So below we show exactly how this is measured, so you can repeat the check yourself in five minutes on any given day.

How we verified it

The trouble with any answer about subscriptions is that an absence is hard to prove. So we took a control measurement: we pulled up the page of a game that definitely is in Game Pass and compared it with the GTA 6 page.

The control game is Forza Horizon 5 — Microsoft’s own title, in the subscription from day one. Here is what its page has and the GTA 6 page does not:

The difference here is not that we failed to spot something. Included in these subscriptions is a separate section of the page, which Microsoft renders for games that are in the subscription. On the GTA 6 page that section does not exist at all.

The PlayStation Store behaves the same way: the GTA 6 listing offers only a pre-order at 79.99 USD (Standard Edition) or 99.99 USD (Ultimate). There is no PS Plus catalogue marking on it.

The subscription here is not what grants you the game; it is what grants you the streaming.

What that means for GTA 6:

• whether the game joins that streamable list has not been announced. Neither Rockstar nor Microsoft has said anything about it;

• where it is available, the question is live and still unanswered.

Do you need a subscription to play

That is a different question, and the two get confused constantly. “Will they give me the game with a subscription” is one thing; “do I need a subscription to run a game I bought” is another.

You do not. And that is no longer our conclusion but the explicit markings on the official listings:

• the PlayStation Store lists offline play and 1 player among the game’s capabilities;
• the Xbox Store lists Single player under Capabilities;
• Rockstar calls GTA 6 a single-player experience on its own site.

PS Plus and Game Pass are needed primarily for online play on consoles — that is stated outright on the Forza Horizon 5 page. GTA 6 has no online mode at launch, so there is nothing to pay for. More detail in our piece on GTA 6 online.

In practice: you buy the game, you play it, even with the internet switched off.

GTA+ is not Game Pass

Another common mix-up, because the names look alike while the substance does not.

GTA+ is Rockstar’s own subscription, and it is about GTA Online — that is, about GTA 5. The month of GTA+ handed out with a GTA 6 pre-order is a bonus, not a route to the game. You cannot buy the subscription instead of the game.

This section matters more than everything above it, because this is precisely where other sites start inventing:

• that GTA 6 will never appear in a subscription. We do not know that, and nobody has announced it.

• that GTA 6 will one day be added to Game Pass. Equally unannounced. Any specific date for when it will be added is invented.

• that Rockstar or Take-Two are planning something with subscriptions. The sources we checked contain no statements about plans at all.

• that GTA 6 will be streamable once you own it. Xbox allows that for select owned titles — which ones qualify has not been published.

• that the country table will stay as it is. Microsoft states on that same page that it expands its list of countries frequently. We recorded a date, not a permanent state.

We measured exactly two things: what the stores said on 13 August 2026, and what the Xbox country table said on 14 August 2026. Everything else about subscriptions today is guesswork, however confidently it is phrased.

GTA 6 free on Game Pass — what the scam looks like

A whole scheme already runs on this topic, and it works simply: you are promised something that officially does not exist.

The tells are immediate:

• an offer to “activate GTA 6 in Game Pass” before the game is out — the game is not on sale at all yet;
• a request to sign in to your Xbox or PlayStation account on a third-party site — that is how accounts get stolen;
• a “subscription with GTA 6 already included” sold for less than the game itself;
• a “regional account” where the game is supposedly in the subscription.

A simple rule: the only place where a subscription’s contents can be verified is your platform’s official store. If the game is not in the subscription there, it is not in one anywhere.

What it costs right now
