  10. In short

The names of Palworld’s “Special” technologies are built so you can identify an item before you’ve even unlocked it: a prefix (Mega, Giga, Hyper, Ultra) marks the rung on the ladder, and the root of the name (Sphere, Incubator, Assembly Line) marks what it’s for. Below is the complete list of these entries from the official source, and a breakdown of how to read each name.

Where this list comes from

First, an important caveat about the nature of the source, because it determines what you won’t find here.

The list is taken from Pocketpair’s official documentation for the Palworld dedicated server — the technologyids page. It’s a technical reference for anyone running their own server: it maps a technology’s human-readable name to its internal identifier. The documentation is called the “Palworld Server Guide” and has a version switcher; at the time this list was compiled, the current documentation version was 1.0.3.

What that means in practice: the page gives you nomenclature, not stats. There are no recipes, materials, quantities, unlock levels, weights, damage values, prices or crafting times. So everything below is a breakdown of the names and identifiers themselves, not a “what’s better” table.

The game itself is developed and published by the Japanese studio Pocketpair — on Palworld’s Steam page it’s listed as both Developer and Publisher.

If you’re setting up your own server for the first time, you’ll get more use out of the guide on multiplayer and the dedicated server — that one covers launching a server, not naming conventions.

Full list of “Special” technologies

The group’s unifying trait is simple: every identifier starts with Special_. That’s why we call them “Special” — it’s not a judgement on an item’s power, just a technical prefix.

In-game name Internal identifier
Egg Incubator Special_HatchingPalEgg
Electric Egg Incubator Special_ElectricHatchingPalEgg
Pal Essence Condenser Special_PalRankUp
Pal Sphere Special_PalSphere_Grade_01
Mega Sphere Special_PalSphere_Grade_02
Giga Sphere Special_PalSphere_Grade_03
Hyper Sphere Special_PalSphere_Grade_04
Ultra Sphere Special_PalSphere_Grade_05
Legendary Sphere Special_PalSphere_Grade_06
Ultimate Sphere Special_PalSphere_Grade_07
Sphere Workbench Special_SphereFactory_Black_Grade_01
Sphere Assembly Line Special_SphereFactory_Black_Grade_02
Sphere Assembly Line II Special_SphereFactory_Black_Grade_03

These are the official names and identifiers, and that’s exactly how you’ll see them in-game and in server configs.

How to read the sphere line-up

The biggest group in the list is spheres. Here the naming is about as transparent as it gets: the base item is simply the Pal Sphere, and each step up adds a prefix to the word Sphere — every new prefix marks the next rung.

You don’t need to guess the order of the rungs — it’s spelled out directly in the identifier. Special_PalSphere_Grade_01 is the Pal Sphere, Grade_02 is the Mega Sphere, and so on up to Grade_07, the Ultimate Sphere.

Prefix in the name Position in the identifier
no prefix (Pal Sphere) Grade_01
Mega Grade_02
Giga Grade_03
Hyper Grade_04
Ultra Grade_05
Legendary Grade_06
Ultimate Grade_07

The practical takeaway: Palworld’s prefixes don’t run in alphabetical order, and they’re not ranked by how impressive they sound. It’s easy to mix up Hyper and Ultra, or to assume Legendary is the top tier. It isn’t: by identifier numbering, Legendary comes before Ultimate.

⚠️ What we’re not claiming: that a higher Grade automatically means a better catch rate, chance, or any other specific advantage. The server documentation doesn’t say a word about that, and we’re not going to invent percentages. The broader context of how catching actually works is covered separately in the guide to catching Pals and the list of spheres.

Three sphere workbenches: Workbench → Assembly Line → Assembly Line II

The second line-up also has three rungs, but there are no Mega/Giga-style prefixes here — you have to tell them apart by the word itself.

  • Sphere WorkbenchSpecial_SphereFactory_Black_Grade_01
  • Sphere Assembly LineSpecial_SphereFactory_Black_Grade_02
  • Sphere Assembly Line IISpecial_SphereFactory_Black_Grade_03

The logic reads like this: first a “workbench” (Workbench), then an “assembly line” (Assembly Line), and the third rung is distinguished only by the Roman numeral at the end. So for the workbenches, the numbering is spelled out directly in the name, while for spheres it’s hidden behind prefixes.

One interesting detail: all three identifiers contain the word Black, even though it doesn’t appear in the names players see. What it refers to — internal coding, a series name, or something else — the documentation doesn’t explain, and we’re not going to guess.

Where to put these workbenches and how to plan a production area in general is covered in the guide on base building.

Incubators: one word apart

Two entries differ by exactly one word:

  • Egg IncubatorSpecial_HatchingPalEgg
  • Electric Egg IncubatorSpecial_ElectricHatchingPalEgg

The identifier’s root is the same (HatchingPalEgg); the only difference is the Electric prefix. This is a classic “base version and its electric version” setup: you can tell them apart from the name alone, no extra clues needed.

What the word Electric actually gets you — speed, self-sufficiency, power draw, or something else — isn’t written down anywhere in the documentation. So the only honest way to put it is this: there are two incubators in the list, and the second one is labelled electric. Anything more would be a guess. For where eggs actually come from, see the guide on Pal breeding.

Pal Essence Condenser

This is a standalone entry, with no line-up and no rungs. Its identifier is Special_PalRankUp.

It’s worth noting the gap between the player-facing name and the technical one: the name talks about a “Pal essence condenser”; the identifier talks about “RankUp”. These are two different layers of naming, and the second one was written for developers, not for a wiki.

Our sources don’t tell us anything about this item beyond its name and identifier. No recipe, no level, no detail of what actually happens when you use it — none of that appears in the server documentation.

On “cold” or heat-resistant versions, and Pal-named items

There’s also something worth flagging that readers might go looking for and not find here.

In the “Special” technology section we’ve broken down, there are no cold-resistant or heat-resistant item versions, and no items named after specific Pals. Everything in this group is listed in the table above: spheres, the three workbenches for them, two incubators, and the Pal Essence Condenser.

Whether such items exist elsewhere in the game isn’t established by our sources. We’re not claiming they exist, and we’re not claiming they don’t — the technologyids page simply isn’t about that. A general overview of how the technology tree works is covered in a separate guide on technology.

Where this fits in your playthrough

Here honesty beats a convenient answer.

What we can say with confidence is the order within each line-up. It’s set by the identifier numbering:

  1. Spheres run from the Pal Sphere (Grade_01) to the Ultimate Sphere (Grade_07), with Mega, Giga, Hyper, Ultra and Legendary in between — in exactly that order.
  2. Workbenches run from the Sphere Workbench (Grade_01) through the Sphere Assembly Line (Grade_02) to the Sphere Assembly Line II (Grade_03).
  3. The incubators don’t form a numbered line-up at all: their identifiers have no Grade marker whatsoever — there’s just the base version and the Electric one.

What we can’t say is at what level each item unlocks, how many points that takes, or at what point in your playthrough you’ll see it. That data isn’t in the dedicated server documentation, so any “roughly around level X” would be invented.

What we’re not claiming

A quick round-up of this article’s boundaries in one place:

  • We don’t name recipes, materials or quantities — they’re not in the source.
  • We don’t name unlock levels or technology-point costs.
  • We don’t compare items by power or build tier lists.
  • We don’t explain what the word Electric does for the incubator, or what Black means in the workbench identifiers.
  • We’re not repeating fan wikis: everything above is checked against Pocketpair’s official page.

If you need actual numbers, look for them in the game itself, not in a reference built for server admins.

In short

Palworld’s “Special” technology names are self-explanatory: the prefixes Mega, Giga, Hyper, Ultra, Legendary and Ultimate slot the spheres into Grade_01–Grade_07, the word Assembly Line instead of Workbench marks the upgraded machine, and Electric marks the second incubator version. The official server documentation doesn’t give stats, recipes or levels, so none appear here either.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Mega Sphere differ from the Giga, Hyper and Ultra Sphere?

According to the official technology list, these are consecutive rungs of one line-up: the Pal Sphere has the identifier Special_PalSphere_Grade_01, the Mega Sphere is Grade_02, the Giga Sphere is Grade_03, the Hyper Sphere is Grade_04, and the Ultra Sphere is Grade_05. So the name points directly to its place in the sequence, not to specific stats — the documentation gives no numbers for stats at all.

Which sphere is last in the list?

The Ultimate Sphere, with the identifier Special_PalSphere_Grade_07. Before it comes the Legendary Sphere (Special_PalSphere_Grade_06).

How many egg incubators does Palworld have?

The official technology table lists two entries: the Egg Incubator (Special_HatchingPalEgg) and the Electric Egg Incubator (Special_ElectricHatchingPalEgg). Exactly how they differ in play isn't described in the documentation — it only gives names and identifiers.

What is the Pal Essence Condenser?

It's a standalone entry in the list, with the internal identifier Special_PalRankUp. Beyond the name and identifier, our sources tell us nothing about it.

What are the Sphere Workbench and Sphere Assembly Line for?

These are three entries in one row of the technology table: the Sphere Workbench (Grade_01), the Sphere Assembly Line (Grade_02) and the Sphere Assembly Line II (Grade_03). The names are tied to spheres, but the documentation gives no recipes, speed or requirements.

Does this list include "cold" or heat-resistant item versions, or items named after specific Pals?

No, not in the "Special" technology section this article covers. Whether they exist elsewhere in the game isn't established by our sources, and we're not claiming either way.
