GTA 6 hasn’t even launched yet, and fans have spent years breaking down Leonida’s map into its real Florida inspirations, from Miami hotels to a sugar refinery near Lake Okeechobee. Rockstar itself has never published an official map or named any specific real-world location outright: every match below comes from players and gaming outlets comparing Rockstar’s own footage to real geography. Treat this as an interesting field guide, not a confirmed fact sheet.

Here’s a summary table of the main comparisons, with explanations for each below.

In-game location Likely real inspiration Where exactly
Vice City Downtown Miami The city as a whole
Ocean View Hotel Clevelander Hotel South Beach, Miami
Sahara Arena (renamed “Vice City Narcos” in-game) Kaseya Center Home arena of the Miami Heat
NINE 1 NINE club E11EVEN nightclub Downtown Miami
Little Havana and Little Cuba Miami’s Cuban neighborhoods Districts with the same names in the real city
Leonida Keys Florida Keys archipelago Island chain south of the mainland
Grassrivers The Everglades Florida’s swampy national park
Mount Kalaga Providence Canyon State Park Southwest Georgia
Ambrosia and the Allied Crystal factory U.S. Sugar factory Near the town of Clewiston and Lake Okeechobee
Port Gellhorn Panama City (likely) Florida Panhandle coast

Vice City: a fictional take on Miami

Vice City is Leonida’s main city, and by fan observation, it’s modeled on downtown Miami. Within that broad comparison, players have spotted more specific parallels. The Ocean View Hotel that appears in Rockstar’s footage was recognized as the Clevelander Hotel, a real South Beach hotel with a distinctive neon facade. Sahara Arena, renamed “Vice City Narcos” in Rockstar’s own materials, resembles Kaseya Center in shape and placement, the home arena of the Miami Heat basketball team. And the NINE 1 NINE club, where characters dance in one trailer, has been matched by the community to the real E11EVEN nightclub in downtown Miami.

Separately, the game includes districts named Little Havana and Little Cuba, direct references to the identically named Cuban neighborhoods of real Miami, historically home to a large Cuban community. Here Rockstar doesn’t even change the name, just transplants it into a fictional state. We covered the city’s official description on its own, without fan parallels, in our guide to Vice City in GTA 6.

Leonida’s nature: the Keys, the Everglades, and Georgia’s mountains

Outside the city, the map echoes Florida’s natural geography. Leonida Keys, the archipelago south of Vice City, is directly linked by fans to the real Florida Keys island chain: the same shape, the same “islands connected by a single road” layout. The Grassrivers region, which Rockstar describes as swampland full of alligators, is compared to the Everglades, Florida’s famous wetland national park in the southwest of the state.

Fans link the Mount Kalaga mountain park in northern Leonida not to Florida but to neighboring Georgia: by this observation, the in-game canyon resembles Providence Canyon State Park in southwest Georgia, a site sometimes nicknamed the “Little Grand Canyon” in the US.

Ambrosia and Port Gellhorn: industry and decline

The Ambrosia county is described in-game as the state’s industrial heart, home to the Allied Crystal sugar factory and a biker gang. Fans trace its real inspiration to the U.S. Sugar factory near the town of Clewiston and Lake Okeechobee, one of Florida’s largest sugar producers.

Port Gellhorn, shown in-game as a decaying resort town with shuttered rides and cheap motels, is thought by players to be likely inspired by Panama City on Florida’s Panhandle coast. This comparison is weaker than the others: Rockstar has never named Panama City directly, and the match rests more on the general mood of a run-down resort than on recognizable details.

How big is Leonida’s map

By GTABase’s estimate, the GTA 6 map is roughly 70% larger than the GTA V map, with over 700 locations and venues players can physically enter: nightclubs, hotels, restaurants, gun stores, supermarkets, and transit stations. These figures also don’t come from Rockstar directly; they’re the outlet’s own count and estimate based on published material.

How official are these comparisons, really

It’s worth honestly separating two layers of information. The first is what Rockstar has said itself: the names of Leonida’s six regions on the Only in Leonida page, the footage it has shown, and short mood descriptions for each region. The second layer is what the community added on top: matching that footage and those descriptions to real places in Florida and Georgia. That second layer is nowhere confirmed by Rockstar itself; it’s a reconstruction by fans and gaming media based on visual and textual resemblance.

So in a piece like this one, look for “the version the community considers most likely,” not “facts about the game.” For comparison, to see exactly what’s officially confirmed about each region on its own, check our guide to Grassrivers, where we separately flag where Rockstar’s official description ends and player speculation begins.

GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and until then these comparisons will likely remain the main way to “see” Leonida’s map ahead of any official full map reveal.

Frequently asked questions

Has Rockstar confirmed these comparisons officially?
