Port Gellhorn in GTA 6: What We Officially Know
Contents
Port Gellhorn is a faded resort town in the state of Leonida, and Rockstar sums it up in one stroke: the tourists never came back, and a new economy has grown in their place built on malt liquor, painkillers, and energy drinks from truck stops. The official description of the region ends with a piece of advice: hop on a dirt bike and hold onto your wallet.
Straight up, no softening: everything below is the complete extent of what’s officially known about Port Gellhorn as of 28 August 2026. Not “the highlights,” not “the most interesting bits” — literally everything. Rockstar hasn’t published an official map image of Leonida, so we don’t know the district’s boundaries, its size, or what it borders on the map, and we’re not going to guess.
A resort that isn’t a resort anymore
Rockstar describes Port Gellhorn as a town that was once popular with tourists and has since lost that popularity. Three details the company states outright:
- cheap motels;
- shuttered attractions;
- empty strip malls.
This isn’t a metaphor for decline — it’s a literal list of what the town is made of, according to the official description. The resort infrastructure is still physically there; the people it was built for aren’t.
This type of location isn’t new for the series: previous games have had small towns living on after their economic reason for existing disappeared. But we won’t be drawing comparisons between Port Gellhorn and specific places from GTA V — Rockstar hasn’t drawn those parallels, and doing it for them would mean dressing up a guess as a fact.
The “new economy”: what Rockstar actually named
The most concrete part of the official description is the one that says what the town runs on now. Rockstar doesn’t just hint that “things are bad here” — it lists the ingredients:
| Element of the new economy | How Rockstar describes it |
|---|---|
| malt liquor | no further detail |
| painkillers | no further detail |
| energy drinks | “truck stop” — the only element Rockstar qualifies |
It looks like a small detail, but it’s a rare case of a company naming exactly what a location deals in before release. The combination is telling: cheap alcohol, pills, and canned caffeine — three things sold where there are no tourists left and no real work either.
Which of these becomes a game mechanic — items, missions, a business, something else — Rockstar hasn’t said. Neither will we.
The line the description ends on
The official text about the region closes with a direct piece of advice to the player: take a dirt bike and keep a hand on your wallet.
The two halves of that line read differently. The dirt bike is a hint about the terrain and the kind of transport suited to it. “Hold onto your wallet” is a warning about people. It’s the only thing Rockstar has said about safety in Port Gellhorn, and it came with no further breakdown — nothing about crime types, NPCs, or whether there’s something you can actually lose mechanically.
So the honest way to put it: the tone of the warning is set officially, its in-game consequences are not.
Official shots of Port Gellhorn
Among the official images of the region, two illustrate the description above well.
- A room fitted with grow lamps. Two men are in frame: one leaning on a shovel, the other resting a baseball bat on his shoulder.
- A motel at night with a lit “vacancy” sign. Vacancies, in a town that no longer takes tourists — the glowing sign reads as its own comment.
Who the two men are, what’s actually being grown in that room, and whether the motel ties into the story — Rockstar hasn’t explained. The shots exist; captions don’t.

Where Port Gellhorn sits among the rest of Leonida
On the Only in Leonida page at rockstargames.com, Rockstar lists exactly six state destinations. Each one gets identical treatment: a heading, a short subheading, a description paragraph, and an “Explore [name]” button with a video.
| # | Destination |
|---|---|
| 1 | Vice City |
| 2 | Leonida Keys |
| 3 | Grassrivers |
| 4 | Port Gellhorn |
| 5 | Ambrosia |
| 6 | Mount Kalaga |
The subheading for the whole section is “Home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond.” That’s Rockstar’s own phrasing, and it sets the emphasis: Vice City is presented as the state’s centre, and the other five destinations, Port Gellhorn included, as what lies beyond it.
In other words, Port Gellhorn isn’t structurally “a district of Vice City” — it’s a standalone entry at the same level as the Keys or Mount Kalaga. For more on how the state is laid out, see our GTA 6 map guide.
What we’re not claiming
This section isn’t here for form’s sake — Port Gellhorn is exactly the kind of place that’s easy to start filling in with guesses.
- We don’t know where it sits on the map. There’s no official map of Leonida. The media library at rockstargames.com/VI/media has Videos, Clips, Screenshots, Ultimate Edition Benefits, Vintage Vice City Pack, and Artwork & Wallpapers sections — no map among them. Checked 28 August 2026.
- We don’t know its size, either in absolute terms or relative to the other destinations. Rockstar hasn’t given any numbers for it.
- We don’t know what neighbourhoods or districts make up the town. Officially, only the town itself is named, not its parts.
- We don’t know of any mission, character, or mechanic tied to Port Gellhorn. The regional description doesn’t name any.
- We don’t know what was actually shown of Port Gellhorn in the An Extended Look showcase. That showcase is dated 27 August 2026 on the official site and is credited by Rockstar as assembled from in-game footage captured on PlayStation 5, not a pre-rendered trailer. But the company hasn’t published a written shot-by-shot breakdown of it, so we won’t be treating the video as a list of confirmed regional facts.
If a map turns up somewhere with Port Gellhorn’s borders labelled, or a list of its streets, that’s not official data — no matter how convincing it looks.
When you’ll actually be able to check this yourself
Grand Theft Auto VI releases on 19 November 2026 — Rockstar shows this date in a “Coming November 19, 2026” block on its own game pages. The platforms listed there are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. PC isn’t among them.
So the first moment you’ll be able to drive through Port Gellhorn yourself and see what that “new economy” actually looks like in gameplay is tied to that date and those two platforms. For more, see our guides on the release date and platforms.
Short version
Port Gellhorn is a former resort town in Leonida with cheap motels, shuttered attractions, and empty strip malls, and its new economy, according to Rockstar, runs on malt liquor, painkillers, and energy drinks from truck stops. Everything else — its place on the map, its size, its districts, its missions — hasn’t been named officially, and as of 28 August 2026, that’s the full extent of what’s known.
