Palworld Grenades: Full List of Names and What They Mean
Contents
Palworld grenades are told apart by name almost entirely through element — Dark, Dragon, Shock, Incendiary, Ground, Ice, Grass, Water — with exactly one entry, Frag Grenade Mk2, marked by a version number instead of an element. There are no Mega, Giga, Hyper or Ultra prefixes, no “frost-resistant” or “heat-resistant” variants, and no grenades named after specific Pals anywhere in this list — and that’s not an oversight, it’s simply how the list is structured.
Below is the full list from the official source, the logic behind the naming, and an honest account of what this source doesn’t give you.
Where this list comes from
Every name in this piece is taken from the technologyids page of Pocketpair’s official Palworld dedicated server documentation. It’s the same documentation that covers setting up and running your own server — we’ve got a separate guide on multiplayer and dedicated servers.
What that means for you as a reader: the technologyids page is a mapping table — the technology name as the player sees it, and the internal identifier as the server sees it. It gives you nomenclature, not stats. There’s no damage, weight, blast radius, crafting materials, crafting time, price or unlock tier. So anyone citing “official data” while quoting grenade damage numbers isn’t citing this page.
The documentation itself is titled “Palworld Server Guide” and has a version switcher; at the time this list was compiled, the current documentation version was 1.0.3. The game’s developer and publisher is the Japanese studio Pocketpair — listed in both roles on Palworld’s Steam page.

The English names are kept exactly as in the source — these are the official entry names. The explanations alongside them are ours, in our own words.
The naming logic: the first word is the element
The naming scheme here is about as simple as it gets, which is exactly why it’s easy to navigate by name alone:
- Dark Grenade — the dark version.
- Dragon Grenade — the dragon version.
- Shock Grenade — the electric version.
- Incendiary Grenade — the fire version.
- Ground Grenade — the earth version.
- Ice Grenade — the ice version.
- Grass Grenade — the grass version.
- Water Grenade — the water version.
Read the name left to right: the first word tells you the element, the second confirms it’s a grenade. Beyond that, the name encodes nothing further.
That’s a notable contrast with other technology branches, where version tiers do show up directly in the item name. Among grenades, there’s no such tiering at all besides Mk2 — so there’s nothing to confuse “by level” in the first place. If you’re curious how naming works in neighbouring categories, see our lists of firearms and Pal weapons.
When the in-game name and the file name don’t match
The most useful thing this technology table gives you is exactly this: the mismatches between what the player sees and what’s written in the identifier. If you’re searching for an entry by one of the two names, it’s easy to miss.
| In-game name | Identifier | Where they don’t match |
|---|---|---|
| Shock Grenade | FragGrenade_Elec | name says “shock”, identifier says “elec” |
| Incendiary Grenade | FragGrenade_Fire | name says “incendiary”, identifier says “fire” |
| Grass Grenade | FragGrenade_Leaf | name says “grass”, identifier says “leaf” |
| Frag Grenade Mk2 | FragGrenade_Super | name says “Mk2”, identifier says “super” |
Every other entry matches word for word: Dark, Dragon, Ground, Ice, Water. The practical takeaway is simple: search the in-game menu for an electric grenade under “Elec” and you’ll come up empty — it’s labelled Shock. Search the identifiers for “Shock” and you’ll get nothing there either.
Entries that fall outside the elemental pattern
Frag Grenade Mk2 is the only grenade whose name marks a version. Mk2 on an item name reads as “second version” — that’s a standard naming convention, not a claim about the game itself. The problem is that no non-Mk2 entry exists in this list, and the documentation never explains what actually sets Mk2 apart. We don’t know its stats, and we don’t know how it relates to the elemental variants.
Grenade Ammo is the only entry with the identifier GrenadeBullet. Going by the name, this reads as ammunition rather than a hand-thrown grenade. What exactly it’s for and how it’s used isn’t something the technology table tells you.
Pal Recovery Grenade carries the identifier PalHealingGrenade. By name, it’s connected to restoring Pals rather than dealing damage. But how it actually works, and who or how much it restores, isn’t stated anywhere in the source.
On the order of unlocking
Here’s the unwelcome part: you can’t establish an order from this source.
The technology table is a dictionary, not a progression tree. It has no unlock tiers, no requirements, no point costs. The order of the rows is simply the order of the identifiers, not the order in which items reach the player. Drawing a conclusion like “this grenade first, then that one” from it would mean mistaking a file’s sort order for the in-game sequence.
What to actually do about it: the in-game technology tree shows the requirements for each entry directly, and that’s the real source of truth on ordering. We cover how the technology progression itself works in a separate guide on technology and points.
What we’re not claiming
To avoid any confusion, here it is stated plainly:
- We’re not claiming this grenade list covers every grenade in the game. It covers every grenade in this particular table.
- We’re not making any claims about damage, blast radius, weight, cost, crafting time, materials or unlock tiers — none of that data exists in this source.
- We’re not claiming that the element in the name translates into elemental damage under the game’s mechanics. The name tells you the element; it says nothing about the mechanic.
- We’re not offering “best loadouts” or tier lists. Without stats, any tier list is someone’s opinion dressed up as fact.
- We’re not claiming Mk2 is stronger than the elemental versions. All we know is that it’s named Mk2.
In short
Palworld’s grenades are named by element — Dark, Dragon, Shock, Incendiary, Ground, Ice, Grass, Water — plus Frag Grenade Mk2, Grenade Ammo and Pal Recovery Grenade as separate entries; there are no Mega/Giga/Hyper/Ultra tiers or Pal-named grenades in this list. The official server documentation only gives you “name — identifier” pairs, so neither stats nor unlock order can be pulled from it.
Frequently asked questions
How many types of grenades are there in Palworld?
We won't give a number, because the official technology table is a list of identifiers, not a guarantee of completeness across every item in the game. Below is the full list of entries that carry the Grenade prefix in that table.
What's the difference between the Shock Grenade and the Incendiary Grenade?
By name, it's element. In the internal identifiers these are FragGrenade_Elec and FragGrenade_Fire — the electric and fire versions. The official server documentation gives no stats at all — no damage, no radius, no effect.
What is the Frag Grenade Mk2?
It's the only grenade on the list whose name carries a version marker rather than an element. Its identifier is FragGrenade_Super. The documentation doesn't explain how it differs from a base version, and no base entry appears in this list at all.
Are there Mega, Giga, Hyper or Ultra grenades in Palworld?
The grenade list from the official technology table has no such prefixes whatsoever. The naming logic there runs on element instead. The only version marker among the grenades is Mk2.
Why would I need identifiers like FragGrenade_Ice?
These are the internal technology names used in Pocketpair's dedicated server documentation. You don't need them for ordinary play, but they're useful if you're working with your own server's settings.
Can this list tell me when each grenade unlocks?
No. The technology table gives a "name — identifier" mapping and nothing more: no unlock tiers, no recipes, no materials. You can't derive the in-game order of appearance from it.
